He really does run upright, doesn't look like he lowers the pads at all. But, he does show some nice speed and good hands on the ball. I don't see Marion Grice (who I'm not that impressed with) being better than this kid. I think DJ may beat him out.

I like the pick.

Wow huge back. I like this pick a lot. Can't wait to see him play. Should be a big threat catching the ball out of the backfield. Maybe the Cards can finally run a screen play!

Wow, so I just saw a clip of Johnson bench pressing 315 pounds. He wasn't just maxing out with a couple of reps, this guy did 9.5 reps. That's pretty good for a RB, yes?

Mike Mayock mentioned Leveon Bell in reference to DJ. That's not a bad sign.

is strengths are similar to Ellington's as they are both great out of the backfield as pass receivers. Johnson obviously has more size, but has never shown much as an inside runner. I wonder if Ellington will be more of a WR this than RB?

The guy's highlight reel on YouTube is sick. He has some fun to watch upside.

That's what I was thinking.
Same here, but hopefully he wants to play football at the next level.

Everyone's highlight reel is always good; that's the point of it. But, the I did like the runs against USC it showed. He did break some tackles for nice runs. Otherwise most of the reel was open field runs and catches.

He may not be a Lynch or Mendenhall type bruiser, but I think he has the potential to be that if needed in goal line situations. He also has the athletic ability to jump the line.

I'm cautious, but definitely see the potential.

Told my brother the exact same thing. Except I said I wish Beanie could have ran behind this line, with this QB instead of being ruined in preseason. :) LOL

I'm not sure this OL's run blocking is anything to boast about. If we knew this cap space wouldn't have gone to use I'd rather kept Lyle or signed Wisniewski. Still have major hole at center.

And most importantly Beanie just sucked and didn't a RB mindset. Soft.

The dude was injured and still broke a rushing record for us, that's not soft, that's playing injured so you can win a game that, frankly, didn't even matter.

I agree with you about the center position however.

Isn't he a big back that some here really liked?

That was me....been a huge fan of his. Love that he moved over from WR.

Runs well between the tackles, falls forward, and is going to allow Arians to run the same offense regardless if Johnson or Ellington (or both). Because they are both great threats in the pass game.

The Matt Forte comparison is a reasonable starting point......size/hands/football IQ/pass blocking are all very similar (and both played for smaller schools). Johnson separates himself in the speed area though. Plus everytime he had a chance to play a big team he showed up with a big game. And then the fact he can be a KO return man is just a cherry on top.

Would have rather had AP because he would have been ready to go from Day 1, but now we have more money and a young back to pair with Ellington for a while going forward. But I love watching him play in college and have claimed since the Senior Bowl he will end up being th best back from the fdrs of

That's Iowa State not USC. They have similar looking uniforms. That being said DJ has one of the better RB highlight films that I have seen.

Beyond the sun.
Listen guys, I have watched every bit of tape there is of him available on the internet. Above all else, he is a quality human being. The kind of guy you want your daughter marrying.

The most impressive video of this young man is his interviews. Intelligent, poised, confident, good sense of humor, and professional. You just know for the next few years you will find his every waking hour in the gym, film room or practice field.

If BA&SK built a football player, it would probably look and sound like David Johnson.

He's the guy I wrote about in Harry's thread re: David Cobb.

I said he runs like a bigger, stronger AE.

Football wise: He is NOT a punishing runner, or at least never displayed that. He is fast and elusive, can break the big one and take it to the house. Obviously he catches the ball extremely well. He is not a short yardage thumper though. He goes down too easily so don't think of Murray or Lynch when you see his size. He's more like LeSean McCoy than he is Lynch.

I'm stoked. I LOVE this pick.

Glad someone else noticed that.....he is such a team first player. I think if he can get comfortable falling forward and using his size better, he could be more punishing. And don't get me wrong, even though he's not punishing like an Earl Campbell, he does finish runs, just not as much as you would expect for a back his size.

Love this pick because he can run between the tackles if needed, but now prolly is a top 5 pass catching back with like Ellington, Forte, Bell, and McCoy.....just for hands he could be higher (but he did start as a WR).

Love the pick
