Best staff is usually also the most expensive staff.

This is true but why not offer them a pay cut. Maybe they did as they were only laid off.

Thinking about it, one or both will probably be back after they test the market.

Things aren't going great at ESPN but they're still the top sports channel around by default. Sports channels seem to be losing their influence in the digital age with everything available online just clicks away, why wait for them to finish covering a sport you don't care about on Sportscenter when you can quickly google what you're looking for. Also the league specific channels have improved a lot over the last few years, like NBA TV and NFL Network. I'd rather watch those than ESPN and be stuck listening to them drone on about golf, Nascar, or something else when all I care about is the NBA scores and highlights. I know NBA TV was unwatchable about 10 years ago with horrible hosts and gimmicky shows but it's gotten better. NFL Network isn't as obscure as it was a decade ago either when they started pushing Thursday night games on there exclusively some years back.

Here is an ongoing list of everyone who has been let go so far, hopefully this will help the Suns find a quality replacement for Steve Albert.

Steven A Smith is reported to be making $3 million a year. He's far from the best and I think that salary would have saved a few people their jobs, like Stein and Ford for example.

This is crazy. Outside of Stephen A Smith, who I can't BELIEVE they kept, who do they have anymore?

ESPN is a sinking ship.

My guess is that Smith is such a raving [donkey]hole that they were afraid he'd sue if they fired him, so they rationalized that he's not really as bad as in fact he is.

I guess they pay him by the word, because he repeats everything four or five times. :)

Who is he trying to convince -- us or himself? Quantity over quality.

I wouldn't mind seeing Jemele Hill get axed. Racism has no place in sports, and that's all she ever talks about. She incites racism and it disgusts me.

I know the situation is different but that makes me worry about what the market might be for Knight. I'd take cap relief though. Maybe Knight and Len in a sign and trade or Knight and Chandler for Howard? Then again him complaining about touches is worrisome.

At least Knight isn't an outspoken malcontent.

Surprised this didn't get posted here, apparently Brandon Roy was injured in a shooting over the weekend. Apparently he's in Washington recovering at this time. He's a high school coach now and was at an outdoor gathering where it appears he was an innocent bystander.

Very sad to see what's happened to him, this and the injuries that derailed his career.

Wow Roy's life is one hell of a rollercoaster ride.
