Yes. You are now trying to make excuses for McD. Go back and check the Knight trade thread on this forum, RealGM, Reddit, .net and you will see a VAST MAJORITY of Suns fans saying how it's an awful trade and that the Lakers pick will be valuable because the Lakers will still suck then.We still don't know where that Lakers pick will end up. We are now, what, 4 years removed. If Brandon Knight had been remotely the player most people thought he would be, it would not have been that bad of a deal.
Did anyone really believe the Lakers would be this bad for this long? Most thought that Kevin Love and Westbrook would both be in Laker uniforms right now and they would be in the thick of the playoffs at least.
That was a reasonable assumption. It was wrong in the end, but it was more likely than not at the time.
I have no particular desire to defend McD on this. I was really bothered at the time by the rep that Knight had coming in. But I want to be fair to McD.
Trading IT for what we got might have been a worse deal.
As for the Lakers signing Westbrook or Love, read my post above.
It was never ever "more likely than not" that the Lakers would become contenders by now.
It's amazing how people believe click bait articles which list bogus sources to put out something that will never happen for the pure purpose of getting clicks and ad revenue.
There are articles out there about the Lakers possibly getting Steph or/and LeBron among others, please tell me you don't believe those too JC.
McDonough screwed the pooch big time on that deal and there's no other way, what so ever of looking at it.
