We still don't know where that Lakers pick will end up. We are now, what, 4 years removed. If Brandon Knight had been remotely the player most people thought he would be, it would not have been that bad of a deal.

Did anyone really believe the Lakers would be this bad for this long? Most thought that Kevin Love and Westbrook would both be in Laker uniforms right now and they would be in the thick of the playoffs at least.

That was a reasonable assumption. It was wrong in the end, but it was more likely than not at the time.

I have no particular desire to defend McD on this. I was really bothered at the time by the rep that Knight had coming in. But I want to be fair to McD.

Trading IT for what we got might have been a worse deal.
Yes. You are now trying to make excuses for McD. Go back and check the Knight trade thread on this forum, RealGM, Reddit, .net and you will see a VAST MAJORITY of Suns fans saying how it's an awful trade and that the Lakers pick will be valuable because the Lakers will still suck then.

As for the Lakers signing Westbrook or Love, read my post above.

It was never ever "more likely than not" that the Lakers would become contenders by now.

It's amazing how people believe click bait articles which list bogus sources to put out something that will never happen for the pure purpose of getting clicks and ad revenue.

There are articles out there about the Lakers possibly getting Steph or/and LeBron among others, please tell me you don't believe those too JC.

McDonough screwed the pooch big time on that deal and there's no other way, what so ever of looking at it.

If I am correct, the Lakers pick the Suns traded has not conveyed so I can give McDonough the benefit of the doubt. What smarts is trading for Knight.

IT was traded to keep Dragic.

What a mess but forgivable. I don't think anyone thought Knight would be this bad.

Looks like they'll have $47M committed. Clarkson, Deng, Mozgov, Randle, Russel and Ingram will be on the payroll.

They should be in decent shape to sign him, but I don't think that team is much better than Indiana right now, and they are in the West.

That's not including the options for Russell, Ingram and Nance which is another 15+ mil. PG's supermax will start around 30m so they'll have around 10m to spend after that. Not much they can do unless a team takes one of their bad contracts.

Salary cap will be $94M in 2017/2018. It will probably hit $100M the following year. They will be able to sign him just fine. Regardless, my guess is that Indiana will be forced to trade him to the Lakers so they get something in return. Nobody else will trade for him if he is leaving for LA the following year. I can see the Cavs sending K-Love to Indiana for a one-year rental on PG to challange the Warriors, I suppose.

I could definitely see the Cavs doing that. Love is such a non-factor against the Warriors, and probably would be the best thing the Pacers could get shipping off a known one year rental.

I wonder if we could send Bledsoe and the Miami pick for the #2 and Deng's contract. We get Ball and Jackson/Isaac. Lakers have Bedsoe in place and can send the Miami pick to Indy for George.

Ball, Booker, Jackson, Chriss, Bender.

I like your thinking. I wonder if there's ANY WAY IN THE WORLD we could force them to take BK in the deal. Someone out there has to sorta kinda want him. Or at least not be completely opposed to the idea.

I'm not a Ball fan, but he'd really compliment Booker. As well as Jackson.

I can't see Indy being interested in the Miami pick for George, that isn't much but then again he did put them in a bad position by publicly stating his intentions now.

Also I wonder if there is any way we can send Bledsoe to Cleveland in a multi-team deal. Lebron has called for more playmakers and is friends with Eric so you'd think he'd like him there and that may be a place Bledsoe would be ok coming off the bench, they need depth. I know they don't have much to offer but that's why it'd need to be a multi-team deal. I like Bledsoe but we need to seriously get this youth movement going, he's not quite a veteran leader and is too old for our core.

WAY too much -- even if you could argue Bledsoe for the #2 is a wash (I don't)--one of the Heat picks for Deng's contract is HEAVILY weighted towards the Lakers.

Maybe throw in Knight? He's due about 3-4m less than Deng annually.

Cool. Having cap space allows us to facilitate.

In a later tweet he suggested kevin love to phx. Never heard of this guy, seems like a trash report.

If some smoke to this, if we give up any young player on our team or the pick this year, that is a total disaster. Love is a complete stiff, he takes so many pick and pop threes because he is too damn slow to even roll.

Not to mention we are waiting 3-4 years for warriors to get older, any team with half a brain should be doing the same

Bill Simmons is a complete moron, he just tweeted a fake trade with suns giving up bledsoe, bender, chriss for kevin love.

I like the fact every reply is outraged over how horrible this deal is for the suns.

He supposedly has sources with the Celtics but knew nothing of the trade swapping picks and was on Twitter begging for info. He's fallen off big time since leaving ESPN.

I think the only people who thought this are idiots and Laker fans.

Lakers have signed 1 star FA in the last 20 or more years and that's Shaq. Just because their a big market doesn't mean they were gonna get stars.

Paul George wants to go there. Lonzo Ball pretty much only wants to play for them. There are even rumors Lebron wants to head to La La Land. The Lakers will always be the Lakers. Unless Sarver somehow gains control of them.

lol

It drops to only top 3 protected in 2016 and 2017. It then becomes unprotected in 2018.

Don't expect LAL to be bad for long though.
