I read it to mean that he will play to the end of the contract he's currently under then leave whoever traded for him. You'd better be quite convinced you can change his mind...

To the Lakers, maybe not to anyone else. For the Lakers, they know that George wants to be there, but anything can happen if he hits free agency. But they also have to really believe that if they have PG on the roster they can draw other high quality free agents. Maybe Chris Paul, or even LeBron next year. For them, he offers a shorter path back to glory.
