What's not to like. It was great to see Doncic block some shots and wow that passing. He certainly knows how to split the defense.

That was the best mixtape for Donicic yet.

Still makes me a little nervous. But there were a couple passes and that bit between the legs smoothly leading to that flip high off the glass that shows an element of natural skills that can’t be taught.

The main thing that looks better in that video compared to the Thunder game is his balance. In the Thunder game "highlights," he was getting bumped around a lot and had a hard time holding his ground, nearly falling over a couple of times. That seemed less of an issue here, and some of his dribbling moves show good balance.

I'm not interested in the circus shots that happen to go in. Everyone makes those once in a while.

The big weaknesses that still come through in this video are:

1. He's very right-hand dominant. All of his strong moves, at least here, are with his right hand going right. NBA defenders will adjust to that very quickly.

2. His leaping ability is mediocre for an NBA wing. Only one of the dunks had any authority, and he didn't have to get very high for his blocks. (Remember that he's 6' 7" or 6' 8", so he shouldn't have much difficulty getting far above the rim.) His timing is good, but I'm concerned that NBA players would play at a height he can't access.

He feels like a post-injury Shaun Livingston to me.

What do you think?

I don’t think he has Livingston’s pop/explosion. But Livingston’s minutes have to be limited for fear of injury.

Shame what happened to him. That kid had massive all world talent.

Dude, the very first two plays are left-handed drives. First time I watched him, it took me 10 minutes to figure out he wasn't left-handed, and the only reason I could tell is by watching his jump shots. He can dribble, drive, and lay it in with either hand equally well. He doesn't pass as well with his left, though.

His leaping ability is fine. He is not explosive, but it's not like he is Zach Randolph. If you have a dunk open, dunk the ball. I couldn't care less about how much "authority" you show, whatever the hell that means. I prefer Doncic dunks that go in to Jackson and Chriss dunks that end up hitting the rim and bouncing out of the basket.

Agree about his balance (which to me is the most important part of athleticism), and circus shots. I'll take it a step further and say that I don't care much for his Jason Williams behind the back, between the legs passes and dribbling. He'd cut his turnovers in half if he would cut that out.

I don’t get this - you’re buying into him for his playmaking and hoping his shooting stacks up on top of that, neither of which require hops.

And at 6’8” he’s long enough to compete..Larry bird had zero hops.

Honestly, most of us who like Doncic are nervous too. He looks too good for an 18 year-old kid. I personally go between "He cannot possibly be this good" and "This kid is a Steve Nash just waiting to happen" about twice a day.

Okay, I give up. The Suns' front office isn't reading my posts anyway, so I'll keep my opinions about Doncic to myself until he joins the team.

I can’t sit here categorically saying he’s the second coming of magic Johnson (which I don’t think he is anyway) but I do think he’s a lock for a high floor (a 16, 8 and 8 type line) - I love assists, and 8 is a lot of them - and probably more than that.

For a tall play maker reference guide, Ben Simmons averaged only 4.5 assists in college and what Doncic is doing in Europe (6.4ast / 36mins) tops that by a decent margin.

Bird was also an inch taller, probably the smartest basketball player ever, the best shooter ever and boarded at 10 per from the second he stepped on the floor.

And now I’m going to get ripped because I showed how Bird was different than Donicic even tho the other poster brought Bird into the conversation.

Bird and Doncic are different players full stop ... but neither of them could jump, is the point.

(And one inch is nothing in the whole scheme of things - you need to consider wingspan also if you’re talking dimensions, although neither are knuckle draggers it’s fair to say).

*I need to restate that quickly and firmly (!) - Bird surely had less hops than Doncic; there's plenty of footage of him throwing it down two handed:

Neh, not enough "authority" in those dunks.

I made a style comparison to Magic with Doncic, but in my mind there is the Adam Morrison but a better passer comparison. If you read the scouting reports coming in Morrison was considered a can’t miss player with unheard of IQ and competitive instincts for the game that would overcome athletic liabilities. One injury and the guy just could not compete on an NBA leval. He is just scary to me. The bust potential is really high.

Good Lord, you are a hostile man.

lol... because I made a joke? Stef, if you're going to slobber all over the kid like a schoolgirl at a New Kids On The Block concert back in the day, I'm prob gonna make a crack. Get over yourself.

What do you think?

The closest comparison is Walt Williams, they are same height and skill set; this is alot closer than Magic, or Morrison its, not Livingston. Williams is a point forward Livingston was way too explosive and there games aresnt similar, also livingston doesn't have a shot; like Doncic. Williams and Doncic is closest comparasion

what scares me more is he couldn't play at the NBA level before injury.

He’s playing against some seriously inferior talent. Can he do those things at NBA speed against NBA athletes?
