So. Do you draft a guy #1 or #2 who won't work out for you? What is he trying to hide?

Boston didn’t draft JJ who refused to workout for them. If the Suns sign Igor and end up picking 3-4th maybe they get Luka not only refuse workouts but not meet with teams and completely ignore them. Maybe a team still pulls the trigger if they know he doesn’t want to be there based on his talent.

The problem with Doncic passing on individual workouts is that the questions around him all center on whether he can physically match up with NBA level athletes. He is not helping himself, or otherwise seems circumspect, with regard to dispelling that notion if he won't work out.

I'm not saying it will necessary kill his draft stock at all. But it makes you wonder if he (or his reps) know that working out would ding his stock when teams saw him up close and in person, and put him through their analytics.

Really? He’s playing on the second biggest stage in the world. Are all his teammates and international leagues in on the fraud? Cmon E . . .

Look, I don’t like that he won’t work out for teams. But it’s not like he’s the first highly projected prospect to refuse to do so. It’s unfortunately become common to either not workout or not do combined workouts where you can be pitted directly against your competition (didn’t a lot of last years top prospects refuse to do that?)

Even a major doncic skeptic over here thinks fraud is pretty broad.

But I don’t like It regardless.

Hope you're right, although from what I've read around the web, a Koskokov hire might also mean a Doncic draft.

This is what worries me, too. I would not be upset with a Doncic pick at three or four, because at that point you are taking a shot in the dark anyway. But if hiring Koskokov means Doncic goes to the top of our draft list no matter where we pick, then I say "nyet" to hiring him.

I have the feeling that some of the posters here (and on other boards) are hyped on Igor simply for the fact that it would mean selecting Doncic no matter what else.

I don't really want Doncic but if we hire Igor and that's who he wants, I won't have a problem with it. The guy has coached him and has a very good understanding of the NBA and the athletes in the league. He'll know whether Luka is more hype than reality. But even if we take him, I'd still worry somewhat about fit.

He's hiding whether he can match up against other elite draft prospects. It may not be intentional, but that will definitely be the effect.

The Suns really need to steer clear of this guy. Everything about him screams Fraud.

My overhyped meter just ticked up another notch.

Excuses for him holding out coming in 3... 2... 1...

You guys do realize that the Spanish League Finals didnt end until June 16 last year, right? Why would he come for a workout during the middle of his league's Finals? Not that it should matter either way.

So you thinks it’s more likely that Bud wasn’t the first choice? He says definite overly “Bud wasn’t the first choice”. That’s the only item I really meant to comment upon. Too lazy to delete the rest of his quotes post.
I think up until the week before we interviewed him, he wasn't even a choice at all simply because he was under contract for another couple years. Once his name got mentioned, the hype machine started up in earnest. So throughout this process, I'd say no, he wasn't our first choice, simply because we didn't know he was a choice at all. Now, after we learned the possibility, MAYBE he became our first choice, and with the 2 days of interviews happening so quickly, odds are he became our first choice for a few days. But he obviously never was the "slam dunk" choice, otherwise we would have signed him right then and there.

But apparently he’s already ruled it out without knowing if he’ll actually be unavailable.

How do you know? I don't think there's anything wrong with assuming that he's going to be unavailable. The guy's confident. He also probably doesn't want his fans over there to think he's not taking it seriously and maybe not playing to his potential because he wants to get overseas as soon as possible.

because that's what the report and his agent said?

maybe... but I just don't know why it would need to be said at all right now.

Really I don’t think there’s a single poster that has said they want Doncic #1. In fact all the comments have been to the contrary.

If a reporter asked it maybe? I don't know.

me either.

but the Agent is making it pretty clear that regardless of the league, Doncic's "tape" has made it pretty clear how great he is.

Yeah. I have found myself to be one of the most consistent Doncic defenders on here, and I would personally take Ayton with the first pick. There are plenty of other places on the internet and on Suns sites where Doncic is viewed as the top prospect in the draft, but I don't recall anyone pushing for him at #1 on here.

I can't speak for others, but I want Kokoskov whether the Suns get Doncic or not, and I would hope they pick the best coach and draft the best prospect. This is your coach and prized prospect, not a spot at the end of the bench for Zoran Dragic.

Luka Doncic Won't Have Individual Workouts With Teams

Huh? Hiding? Excuses?

Whether you love or hate Doncic, it is utterly ridiculous to think this is him hiding something.

This is like Durant saying to his wife, "No, I can't go visit your parents when the NBA finals should be taking place" and her accusing him of having an affair.

He plays for the best team in his league, their playoffs are taking place when NBA teams work out players. End of story.

Not quite. It's like Durant saying to his fiancée, "No, I won't consider a visit to meet your family, because I might be busy then," and then her wondering about how committed he is to the relationship.

One thing I will say for Doncic, he is not sitting out games in Euro League as some college players have done in the U.S. trying to preserve their draft stock.

Doncic is not afraid to let scouts pick a part his game.

I'm more talking about the use of lines like "what is he hiding?", "excuses?".

Nothing is being hid. The guy is under contract and it is extremely likely his team will be playing at that point in time.

OK. Stop with the "What's he hiding" narrative. I was poking fun at at the constant conspiracy narrative we see everywhere. It was not serious. Please do not argue against it as if it was. I was the only one that said it.

Sorry, didn't catch the sarcasm.

The narrative around Doncic has been so absurd that not comment would really surprise me. Some opinions on him paint him as though he is a lock to be one of the best ever, while some of his detractors act as though he might struggle to keep up in an American rec-league.

To be fair, my YMCA team is REALLY good.

Maybe I was a bit too subtle? I am truly a Doncic skeptic though.

What bothers me some is that Doncic didn't have announce he wouldn't work out. As long as his team is playing in the tournament no one would expect him to come over for a workout but were his team to get knocked out, then they'd certainly expect it. Maybe he's so sure his team will be in it until the end, he didn't think he was closing off any reasonable expectations. If they do get knocked out and he still won't come over for some workouts then it's reasonable or hold it against him - and even suspect he is hiding something.
As it is fairly likely Real Madrid will be there to the end, we ought to send a scout or two over to watch him live - assuming we do have a serious interest in drafting him.

Frankly the only circumstance in which I'd be happy to draft Doncic is if we hired Igor K, and he was adamant about it - with reasons.

Maybe his agent just wanted a little attention, or maybe he thought that Doncic being committed to his present team regardless of NBA interest was a good look.
