Below is a link that covers the interview with James Jones.

Here is an excerpt from the Duane Rankin article:

“We wanted to go into the trade deadline for the purpose of getting a player and not a project,” Jones said. “Not a prospect, but a player. So we got one and we’re happy that he’s with us and hopefully he can fill a void for us. The point guard position has been a position where we really haven’t had much success. We hope that he can come in and playing next to (Devin) Booker as a primary, secondary ball handler and can give us the capacity to compete a little bit better.”

IOW. Tyler Johnson not Markelle Fultz. He is right. We have too many projects as it is.

So...he is counting on either Booker or Johnson to be the answer at point guard.

Beyond ludicrous.

Except Johnson has proved not to be anything more than a mediocre back up, while Fultz still has the opportunity to improve from mediocre back-up to star.

I think if we criticize James Jones we have to give him credit where credit is due.

Here are a few positives:

1. He didn't do anything rash at the trade deadline to jeopardize the Suns future.
2. As JC points out, I'm shocked the Suns got anything positive for Ryan Anderson.
3. The Ariza trade was a success.

The Ryan Anderson trade could turn out like the Ariza trade. Very happy with Oubre's play.

Johnson and Oubre do have some similarities in how they play. A couple are how they penetrate into the lane and play defense.

Tyler Johnson is in the Oubre, PJ Tucker, Dan Majerle mold. Good athleticism, middle of the road skills, intense motor. I would really like to see if he can learn to run an offense.

Tonight is a good start. Tyler gets to dog Curry all night. Book, if he plays, gets to camp out on Klay. I am expecting to see some defensive energy by Tyler tonight and the other players on this young team feed on that.

He's been in the league 5 years and hasn't been able to learn to do so. What makes you think he can start now?

I am convinced at this point that his loyalty is NOT to the Suns organization.

That is an assinine thing to believe. You seriously believe he wants to be fired - because that is what you are basically saying.

I'm saying he doesn't care, as he has LeBron James and Pat Riley in his corner, which means that as long as he continues to curry favor with them, he is set for life.

The Suns roster stands at 13 players. I would guess they are looking to add a 14th player soon.

Any suggestions or someone we haven't talked about?

If his aspirations in the NBA are to be a GM than the best thing he can do is do a good job while he is filling in for the Suns. Our GM spot is wide open for next year and it seems to make a lot more sense to me that he would be trying to position himself in a way to get officially hired for that job come the summer.

Henry Ellenson was released by the Pistons to make room for Wayne Ellington. He would be a reasonable target to test out at power forward.

I sure missed on Ellenson, thought he would be an effective stretch big in the NBA. It's probably a wasted effort but I'd probably give him a look anyway, if he's interested. The guy is shooting 50% from 3 so we can pass it off as a great signing until someone realizes he's only taken 4 of them this season.

And if his aspirations are merely to be set for life by riding his buddies' coattails?...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had a passing interest in him.

The Suns should consider kicking the tires.
