He’s got more turnovers than assist vs legit competition so we don’t know how good of a facilitator he is. He just reminds me of Sexton when he plays. He’s an athletic attacking scorer but mediocre shooter who doesn’t defend. Maybe he proves to be more a complete PG in a few years but I doubt it.
That’s because his teammates aren’t any good and he is trying to do too much by himself against good teams. The fact that he is even averaging 9 assists with what he has around him is pretty impressive.

You think that's going to be any different playing for the worst team in the NBA two years running?

Are you sure about that? I would argue every day closer to Davis free agency drops the price.

Yes I'm sure. The Lakers' will still gladly hand over the same package this summer to acquire Davis. And Boston will still offer a package that trumps the Lakers offer.

Here is a power forward that can help the Suns... Markieff Morris. Yikes.

The Suns have two roster spots open. Add a point guard.

Plus the Clippers are waiving Michael Beasley... any interest on kicking the tires on him?

I'd be weary of offering Portis a multi-year deal. A few players with questionable chemistry of their own isn't enough to convince me that Portis isn't a problem. If asked I will bring up the numbers again, but the Bulls were jaw-droppingly better with Mirotic in the game than Portis, Portis didn't like that he was losing PT and getting out played by some euro-softy so he cold clocked him in practice and broke Mirotic's face.

I don't really think we need to add the kind of player who, as a response to being outplayed, would assault a teammate.

The Bulls lumping him into this swap of ugly contracts only reinforces the idea that offering this dude a real contract is a bad idea.

The punch happened in preseason, so that part about ther punch isn't accurate.

As for the player Portis plays with reckless abandon, but not in a good way. He broke his own players nose last week because of it. To me, he is along the line of JR Smith. Talented, but dumb as a rock with no discipline. But he does shoot a pretty 3 for a big guy. I'll take Potter and his 2 years remaining over a long term deal to Portis.

Either way, I hate Zach LaVine and his stupid face and stupid contract. This team had a winning record without him and the numbers aren't even close.

Don't know how I missed this deal. Apparently Toronto traded Delon Wright, which I believe is more of a lesser piece of this deal but who knows. Marc Gasol goes to Toronto for Valanciunas, Wright, and CJ Miles, plus a 2nd round pick in 5 years. I'm surprised Memphis sold that low, unless they're really high on Wright or Valanciunas. If Wright is bought out though I'd love to see the Suns make a move for him. He was one of Toronto's backup PG's with VanVleet and they would alternate playmaking responsibilities. He's got a lot of size for a PG, 6'5 I believe, and is a good defender. He's someone I've wanted to see the Suns go after ever since Toronto resigned VanVleet. I would have been fine with either of those 2 but I didn't see a way they could keep both with Lowry. Not sure why he's called a wing in the analysis because he's very much a guard and primarily played PG at that. His size allows him to be more of a combo guard though.

I like the Gasol move for Toronto also. It seems like all 3 of the East contenders behind Boston improved while Boston stood still, although they did add a healthy Gordon Hayward this year and that will help them in the postseason. Toronto, Milwaukee, and Philly are all legit final contenders at this point though.

Raptors receive:
C Marc Gasol

Grizzlies receive:
C Jonas Valanciunas
G Delon Wright
F/G CJ Miles
2024 second-round pick

Feb. 7 | Official Release: Raptors

Instant Analysis: With their fellow Eastern Conference contenders making moves, Toronto didn't sit still, adding a talented veteran center to their formidable mix. The transition should be eased since Gasol played with Kyle Lowry (2008-09, in Memphis), albeit before the point guard elevated above his current All-Star plateau. The Grizzlies gain a solid pivot in Valanciunas, a prospective wing piece in Wright and the satisfaction of sending Gasol on to a winning situation.

"Those contracts probably could've helped us potentially, but we still would've had the opportunity, the resources to execute a major trade. I don't regret not having that. If we didn't use it & that wasn't a reality, or something realistic, it's a mute point." #Suns James Jones

“Probably could’ve helped us” - but instead helped the rockets and lakers. F YOU Jones. You don’t just give away useful assets. Even if they didn’t get used in a trade they could’ve given us flexibility and have been released now. Idiot. And even bigger idiot to admit it publicly. I hate so much about the team.

More confirmation that James Jones is doing the Suns more harm than good and is in over his head.

This franchise needs a complete overhaul from the top down.

If Jones had said the above was a blunder I would be more forgiving.

However, when he tried to explain it away, this bothered me.

Perhaps he was trying to be a good ol' boy trying to please players and teams.

Yeah, the 2nd round pick Toronto sent Memphis is for the 2024 draft. I guess that's the first one they had available. I know that some 2nd round picks were included in the Kawhi trade but I think it was only 1. I don't know where to look up who owns what picks a few years out because I'd like to see how and when they traded away all of their 2nd rounders for the next 5 years.

I've already been upset about how they handled Chandler's expiring contract but I won't fault Jones for Ariza since we got Oubre from that. I won't get upset with Jones again over the Tyson deal though because he shouldn't need to explain it again.

The NBA needs to adjust the dates of certain events, moving the trade deadline back a little further or the date that players signed in the offseason can be dealt. Before they moved the All-Star break to after the trade deadline a team could acquire a player on December 15th and trade them again in a package at the deadline because they need to hold onto them for 60 days to include them with another player. Lowering that would make sense and it would make sense to move the December 15th date up since the season starts a little earlier now as well.

Chandler could have been an asset and since he had just 1 year left on his deal I think we could have received something from LA if Lebron was actually pushing Lakers management to add another big. Ariza was dealt for Oubre and I have problem with waiving Rivers since he couldn't have been dealt unless he was traded alone. Oubre was the main addition there and had salaries not mattered a straight swap of Ariza for Oubre still would have been a good mood and that's how I view that deal.

I am convinced at this point that his loyalty is NOT to the Suns organization.

Tyson Chandler was a dead weight on this team. I suppose they could have sat him down on the bench like Bender with perpetual DNP's while we continued to try to move his contract. Yeah, maybe we could have used him in some sort of deal. Anyone have any ideas about how he could have been used? Honestly, I am asking.

I am shocked we got any thing Ryno. I thought that was as dead as dead money could be in the NBA. The fact that we traded him away, by himself, for anything is near miraculous.

I sure am interested to see how Tyler pans out.
