9-7, call me crazy!
Thanks for the clarification - your above post, and some of your others, seemed to imply that you don't think Johnson is a difference-maker. That you think his return will help, but other factors will sink the team, makes more sense (and is probably an opinion shared by many).I do, but I don't know if it's enough to make up for newly made deficiencies in other areas. [....]
I just don't think that the people saying "Well, DJ's back there's no way we're going 8-8 again." That 8-8 record actually exceeded our win expectancy by 2 games(!). That's coaching.
So, do I think that adding David Johnson but decimating the QB position and WR corps is going to make a difference in the W/L column? Not really. I think the absolute ceiling for this team is 9 wins.
Based on what Johnson's age and what he's actually done in the NFL, this is a sensible position... but based on watching him play, his speed, power, moves, and hands... i have no problem putting him right there with Gurley & Bell, despite not yet having as many great seasons as Bell has. (No one deserves to be mentioned in a class with Tomlinson until he's had at least 6 1200-yard seasons!)I'm not ready to put David Johnson in the same class as Todd Gurley and Le'Veon Bell. I want to see him do it again, and I don't want to see him fumble. I also think that he's too old to hitch your wagon to for the long-term. We're gonna need to draft another back before Josh Rosen is ready to win a championship. By the time Ladianian Tomlinson was DJ's age, he'd had SEVEN 1200+ rushing seasons.
It's a high compliment that I'm comparing DJ to Gurley, Bell, and Tomlinson. I have a pretty high bar for these comparisons.
I don't think that Bradford's career has been nearly as good as Palmer's... especially considering Palmer's best years. But strictly comparing to the last two seasons, for the purposes of comparing the team's expected QB play this year to its actual QB play the last two years, i absolutely think that Bradford (as long as he lasts) and Rosen (if necessary) can do as well as Palmer's 87 and 84 ratings the last two seasons, and WILL do better than the team's overall 76 passer rating last season.Do you really think our QB room is decimated compared to last year? The wr I would say is a wash. We had an injured John Brown & Jaron. How is what we have now so much worse? I would say we improved at QB. I believe Sam is a better QB than Carson. Rosen is better than Gabbert most likely.
Bradford did about the same as Palmer's 87 rating and his 54 QBR his last full season in Minnesota. His ceiling is so much lower than Palmer's though.I don't think that Bradford's career has been nearly as good as Palmer's... especially considering Palmer's best years. So, it's a reasonable position to say that the QB room has been upgraded relative to last year.

Hmm, says here he had a 99 passer rating and (only slightly better) 57 QBR. All other things being equal (which they're not, but we're discussing whether the QB room is as good as last year's) he should be able to do as well as Palmer did in 2017 - and while Bradford might not make it through the season, neither did Palmer in 2017. Rosen is a relative unknown at this point but i like his chances to do better than Gabbert (70 passer rating, 31 QBR) and Stanton (66 / 37).Bradford did about the same as Palmer's 87 rating and his 54 QBR his last full season in Minnesota. His ceiling is so much lower than Palmer's though.

For the first time in 20 years last year, i had the #1 pick in not one, but both of my leagues. I picked David Johnson in both. For all our sakes, i hope you have better luck with him!!DJ better have a good season, he's on my fantasy team.

Checkdown Sam is & never will be as good as Palmer! Not even close or comparable imo.How do you figure his ceiling is so much lower? I'm curious as to why you think so. Injuries can't be the reason since they both have bad knees.

Rams fan is more positive about my team than me. Dang, I need to revisit my outlook on being a fan of any team.

You act like I'm comparing Palmer to Skelton or something.
Bradford is pure trash compared to Palmer so far in NFL achievements.

Seriously? What are these NFL achievements? Palmer never even won a playoff game, before coming to AZ.
Seriously?
How many times has Bradford even been to the playoffs? The year he set an NFL record for completion percentage he lead Minnesota to 7 wins.
The fact that we’d recognize starting 15 games as a major accomplishment for Bradford should tell you all you need to know about what Checkdown Sammy has achieved.
