#2 player in the draft. Competition be damned.

Only if it doesn't keep them from acquiring a veteran point guard. Otherwise, we will have to put up with at least 3 more seasons like this one while Morant attempts to adjust to infinitely better NBA competition, with only Okobo and Melton, who also need at least another 2-3 years to get to NBA level of play, as his competition. Between you and me, I can't even take one more season like the last 5 we have had.

Morant just led his team to a blowout home loss against that college basketball powerhouse Belmont.

Belmont isn't a powerhouse but UCLA was riding a 3 game winning streak when the road Bruins went to LA and beat the home Bruins so it's not quite the embarrassment you're portraying it as. And Belmont, like Murray State, is in line to seriously contend/hope for a trip to the dance.

I can't believe you haven't put him on ignore yet. Uses the absolute weakest arguments to try and prove his stance. Wasn't a blowout, Belmont is a solid team and this might have been the worst performance Morant has had all season and he had 20/9.

And his team lost at home by 13. In what universe is that not a blowout? And in what universe is Belmont a "solid team"? If he can't lift his team against the likes of Belmont, in what universe can he hold his own against the likes of the Warriors, Lakers, etc.?

For everyone already anointing Ja Morant the savior of this franchise, he has yet to lead his team to a single win against a high major opponent and now doesn't even always lead his team to wins against mid major competition.

Sorry, but Steph Curry or Damian Lillard he is most certainly not.

I had him and 4 others on ignore but so many regulars here kept responding to them which made reading the board a bit confusing. Still, I was better off blissfully ignorant of which of that group was saying what about whom so I think I'll reactivate my ignore list.

Yeah I’ve been tempted to unignore but my sense got the better of me in time.

Belmont is good and well coached but UCLA is 10-9 and horrible so that win looks less impressive. Didn't Morant hurt his ankle in the game, I suspect that's why he didn't play better.

Yeah I know it wasn't that big of a deal but the poster I was talking to has repeatedly claimed that Morant is no more than the next Isaiah Canaan. And yes, Morant collided with another player about a minute into the game and lay there clutching his ankle. He was clearly hobbled throughout most of the game.

Yeah I've seen his posts I have just not responded he clearly has some issue with Canaan and is projecting it onto Morant.

The Belmont game was the one where they suckered UCLA with a fake "scramble" play to win the game. They dribbled around 30 feet away like they were confused, one player pretended like he was trapped, and then Jaylen Hands lost sight his man went backdoor and layup ball game. After the game we were told it's a set play Belmont has run for years under Rick Byrd the coach. And then the real insult to injury, Hands and another UCLA player admitted then assistant Murry Bartow had not only told them about that play, they'd practiced against it leading up to the game and Bartow actually reminded them about the play just before Belmont used it to beat them.

What me bitter?

There's an option in the bottom right below the "Like" "+Multi" & "Quote" buttons on the last post in a thread to "Show Ignored Content" and then all of the ignored members posts will pop up. So if you ever get confused, click that and you can see what's happening without having to remove or add anyone to your list. I've used that a couple of times to figure out what was going on when I saw some posts that made no sense on their own.

Thanks for the tip. I'll probably just go on being confused but it's nice to know there's an easy opt out.

I’ve done that. It’s a mistake. When I make the mistake I momentarily think about responding to the newly exposed idiocy and then come to my senses. Why engage?

Here are players I feel could really help PHX:
Zion - Obvious
Morant - Obvious
Gafford - Defensive big who can rebound
Bassey - Another defensive rounding big with more shooting range than Gafford
Fernando - Beast down low and shot blocker to boot

If PHX lands past #2 and doesn't trade the pick for a PG then I hope they go for one of the 3 bigs above who provide the post defense that should help Ayton. PG & PF are the obvious needs for next year.

Gafford is a bad fit with Ayton as far as I’m concerned. I’ll check out Bassey and fernando

Ayton’s got a nice stroke from 15-18 ft. I could see him developing a nice 3 pt shot. If he does that would create space inside for another lane clogger.

I doubt he’s ever getting close the MVP level but he’s going to be great for a long time.

During his probable 12 to 15 years in the NBA there will only be a handful of players that win MVP's so obviously the odds are long but I still like his chances of winning that award. More than once, even. I'm surprised you don't think he'll even get close, where do you find him lacking?

No qualms with his skills. As I mentioned above he’s not as much as a “battering ram” type player as he looks but is he a guy that’s going to make everyone’s game around him better? That’s what I consider MVP-caliber. I’m also a little worried about the guys that reach that generation-freak level so young. With the exception of Lebron their bodies seem to break down a lot quicker: Blake, Westbrook, Rose, Webber, Carter, Amare and others. As for his weight idk what to think. He looks really good and he seems to take care of himself but 285 lbs is a lot of bulk at 6’5”/6’6”.

I never see him coming close to a guy like Lebron or Giannis but you do have those years when a guy like Derrick Rose wins MVP. So it’s possible.

Yeah, I worry about his weight and his injury risk given his playing style (above the rim, often). If he stays healthy though I do believe he can be in the Giannis class but I think both will fall noticeably short of Lebron's peak. As for making his teammates better, there are a lot of ways to do that. Zion should draw a lot of defensive attention which will open things up for his teammates, making them better in the process.
