Well that sucks for him. I still don't think a team will get him on a 2-way deal cheap. Someone will cave and spend at least a second rounder on him.

Yeah. I agree. I wouldn't want the Suns to spend their high second rounder on him, and the last thing we need is to add three rookies next year...but for the right team with a mid-late 2nd rounder, he'd be an intriguing option.

Maybe. Sometimes even a bad gamble starts to look good when you're drafting late. But I doubt that he'll stick to a roster on his first try. The game has changed, pure height means something but it doesn't mean what it used to. I think he's most likely to end up playing internationally for a few years and then trying the NBA again at 27 or 28 like Boban did.

Tacko is an absurdly tall human being, even for NBA standards. I'm not sure that situation is representative of the length he'll usually face in the NBA. He does not seem to have much issue against guys in the 6'10" - 7' range.
It’s not just height. NBA players with large wingspans and standing reaches could also pose problems for him. Guys like Giannis, Bamba, Gobert could pose a formidable challenge for him.

Gobert is a problem for just about everyone but I don't see Bamba having any impact on Zion. Williamson likely won't be handcuffed by the spacing problems he was facing in that game. But if Giannis and others can do what UCF and Tacko did, which was hold Zion to 50% shooting while he goes for 32 and 11, well, more power to them. Still, I'll take those numbers any day.

For a later second round pick or at least a two-way contract I think Tacko is worth it.

He gave Duke's NBA laden roster problems.

Dallas doesn't have a later 2nd round pick this year, theirs is at #36 right now, but it's not hard for a team to buy a late 2nd rounder and drafting Tacko in the 2nd round sounds like such a Mavericks thing to do. Cuban loves wasting money on project bigs. They waived their latest project, Salah Mejri, in early February. He was a 7'2" Center from Tunisia so they got room to take on a new one come draft time.

I'm beginning to think the 2019 is a better draft than originally anticipated beyond the top three players: Zion, Morant and Barrett.

It's a draft where I think a team can come away with a big man that will produce such as Clarke and Kabengele.

If the Suns do not land in the top three, it could be a great opportunity to pick up a depth big man who might eventually start.

Trade and free agency might be the best route to go in filling their immediate needs at point guard and power forward. They still have the Bucks pick and their second round pick to use.

The Suns shouldn't be locked into trading their first round pick if it falls later because they are young.

He is. He's a 23 year old senior and I expect his post-college career to be similar to another giant from Senegal that came just before him, Mamadou N'Diaye. I think he'll spend most of his time playing international ball and maybe some G League and will likely end up at the end of an NBA bench every few seasons.

I can see Tacko playing in Prescott for the G team. Instead of Rodio night they could have Giants night.

But he won't be able to stand in the middle of the key to play D in the NBA. He will at least have to move from side to side, and that is only if his team plays defense 100% of the time. He has trouble having an impact on D even if he is a few feet away from the play. The kid just does not move or respond very quickly at all

The players I am most interested in for the 2019 draft are:

1. Zion
2. Ja
3. Bol Bol
4. Darius Garland

That is NOT a draft order. Its just the list of players that really intrigue me for the next level. Garland was universally considered a better pg than Ja at the beginning of the year. He has the ball handling ability. He is a better shooter. He is not quite the leaper I do not think. He is not the distributor. But if we are outside the top two or three, I would not mind trading back and taking Garland or Bol.

i think Tacko has a place at the end of the bench for times when you'd like to throw someone in to disrupt your opponents game plan.

i don't know his stats but i'd say if he can shoot at least 50% from the line he's a valid late 2nd round pick.

I can see the potential for either Bol or Garland being top 2-3 players from this draft. It could potentially be both. The idea of Bol Bol after a few years in an NBA strength/conditioning program is a scary thought.

I really like the way Garland can change speeds. He is so deceptive. Also Garland can shoot the ball. He had surgery for a meniscus injury in his left knee so this is something to keep in mind but this should not effect his game.

I still put Ayton ahead of Doncic, because five years from now he will be better IMO.

Ayton is a heavily flawed player, who is averaging figures that Hall of Famers did as rookies. Its scary how good he can be.
All those HOFers played 4 years of college.

I like that list but id add PJ Washington as a player to look at with their second pick maybe trade up into the back half of the first using Warren as a salary dump type situation, other people where talking about Clark but I think Washington has alot better chance to succeed as a smaller PF then him

Smaller / power. Isn't that a contradiction in terms?

Power forward is an outdated term anyway. There are very few traditional power forwards in the NBA today. I remain in the more traditional camp, but the days of 6'10 260lb requirements for being a power forward are long gone. Ability to stretch the floor to some degree tends to be a bigger requirement in the NBA right now. Tall, heavy PFs with no jumpers have either transitioned to being Centers or are out of the league, or at the very least the regular rotation. In today's NBA, one of your big men has to be able to hit long jumpers.

Today's power forwards need to be able to shoot, score at the rim, rebound, run the floor, have at lease marginal ball handling skills, catch the ball in traffic, and effectively defend at least two positions. Zion checks all of those.

Decent passing ability is a really nice bonus.

Its interesting the discussion about "not having a position."

There is a difference between a "tweener" and a true "combo player"

Tweeners are players who are usually to small for their skill set--size of a pg, skills of a sg. Size of a sf, skills of a pf.
Combo player can play multiple positions effectively. That is where the league is going. They might be better at one than the other, but they can play both.

Forward and pg like Doncic and LeBron
SG and PG like Harden (or Booker to a certain extent, Booker has certainly improved his distribution skills this year)

Zion is a combo player. He can certainly play PF, but he has the speed and agility to play sf. He has the bulk and athleticism to even play at center in certain situations. With marginal improvement in his three point shooting . . .

Draymond green is a bit undersized for the front court, but still has a tremendous impact. If he could hit 38+% from 3, he'd be in the MVP discussions. And I begrudgingly admit this even though I can't stand the guy.
