Jessica Mendoza loses Mets job, ESPN role
Trailblazing analyst Jessica Mendoza is out of ESPN’s top booth on “Sunday Night Baseball” and has resigned her position as a special adviser to the Mets.

Mendoza had teamed with Alex Rodriguez and play-by-player Matt Vasgersian on what is baseball’s second-most prestigious booth after Fox’s World Series spot.

ESPN has yet to finalize its “Sunday Night” booth. A-Rod is safe, while the network is considering keeping Vasgersian at play-by-play or switching to Jon Sciambi or Karl Ravech. ESPN has spoken with David Cone about replacing Mendoza. It could go with a two-man booth with A-Rod or consider an alternative to Cone as a second analyst.

Unclear if Dodgers and Red Sox try to complete the trade themselves or attempt to bring in another team (perhaps the Angels?) Either way, Twins pulling out is significant development.

Twins have not backed out of initial 3-team trade that would send Mookie Betts to the Dodgers, I'm told. They are willing to renegotiate and attempt to work through it, though whether it ultimately gets figured out is uncertain. All sides want a resolution by reporting date.

Bottom line: #RedSox and #Dodgers should be motivated to complete deal. BOS could be left with Betts, Price and all their previous financial concerns, valid or not. LAD would be left with Maeda and Pederson unsettled - and once again they would be shut out on a star.

Real question is what #RedSox want. #MNTwins could send Graterol and lesser prospect to #Dodgers, then LAD could flip Graterol and a better prospect to BOS. But some in talks sense that negative media reaction to Verdugo-Graterol return for Betts-Price gave BOS ownership pause.

More on #RedSox: They should not have been surprised Graterol might project as a reliever; that is how #MNTwins saw him. They also should not have been surprised that fans and media would react negatively to a trade of one of the game’s biggest stars, Mookie Betts.

The possible dissolution of the Twins’ part of the deal reportedly stems from the Red Sox and their concerns about Graterol. Boston had counted on Graterol being a starter, but once they got his medical records from the Twins, they apparently felt that he’s more likely to be a reliever in the long term. The Red Sox weren’t happy with that, and reportedly asked the Twins to add a top 10 prospect to the package to complete the trade.

As the Star Tribune reported, the Twins don’t want to do that. While the Twins’ part of the deal isn’t dead yet, further conversations between the two teams have “proved fruitless.

Latest on the Betts trade (1/2): per source, the Red Sox are focused on getting a deal done with the Dodgers above all else. The Twins appear to be out of the three-way deal, though a separate trade for Maeda remains in play.

There was progress Sunday morning in the megadeal that would send Mookie Betts and David Price from Boston to Los Angeles, a source told MLB.com, and the role of a third team -- perhaps the Twins -- remained unclear.

Believed to be out of trade talks Saturday night, the Twins are still pushing to complete a deal with the Dodgers for right-hander Kenta Maeda, while Los Angeles pushes to wrap up what may ultimately be a second deal with Boston, a source told MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal on Sunday morning. None of the clubs have confirmed the progress.
