Dallas is resting half their starters in a must win game. They want to lose. Hilarious. Never thought I’d see a team give up while being one game out right at the end of the season.

I bet they win anyway, they’ve been better with one of kyrie or Luka out.
I think they know they have no chance and don’t want to lose their first round pick to the Knicks which will pay off the Prozingid trade.

Yep. The tank must be on.

The Mavericks plan to sit Luka after the 1st quarter, per sources.

While a meltdown isn't a surprise, I am surprised the Mavs have melted down this much. That is an epic disaster of a season.

Actually, the Mavericks-Bulls game might be must watch. I don't think I have it though.

Within a couple years, Luka’s asking out.
It almost feels like they don't want to actually be good. They let Brunson get away and didn't seem to try hard to convince him to stay. They trade for Kyrie who is known for antics that hurt the team and now they shut the season down when they can still get in the playoffs. All around weird.

I haven't done any math on it, but it sounds like the Mavericks hope to keep their 2023 draft pick.

I don't think that's accurate. From what I read they really tried to keep Brunson but his dad was hired by the Knicks and he swayed the negotiations. And their front office was very much against a big trade this season (because of draft pick complications if I remember correctly).

And Luka made a public plea just before the trade deadline for immediate help so they went against their own logic and went after the only big name player they could acquire. The move has backfired which leaves them in a position of losing their first round pick this season if it's outside the top 10. I'm confused by this most recent decision to sit the stars though, it almost seems like backlash towards Luka for his "get me help now" demand.

Potentially at the cost of leaving a sour taste in the mouth of their franchise player. Doesn't really make sense.

Not to mention Kyrie who they intend to try and resign in the off-season. I could easily see Kyrie bounce and Luka ask for a trade in the next couple seasons.

The Mavericks swung for the fences. Sometimes this is the way it turns out when you do.

The problem is that they swung for the fences on a guy that has red flags. They also took a swing when they traded for Porzingis, but he is a another guy with some real flaws as well. Taking sings and failing will only keep someone around for so long.

Yeah I don't understand playing Luka one quarter. I can understand giving up the season even though making the play-in is still quite possible because advancing is such a very slim hope for them. And maybe they have a draft target they're really high on or perhaps a draft day trade in mind but it's confusing.

Mikal having his 4th straight poor shooting performance. Wonder if he is getting defended differently or if he is simply in a slump.

I liked the trade for Porzingis better than I did the Irving trade.

I'm the opposite. I called the Porizingis trade a big mistake at the time but other than the off the court Kyrie issues, I thought this one had potential to put a star next to their fat guy.

I thought Porzingis had a chance to be good if he recovered, whereas I don't like the baggage Kyrie seems to bring.
