Wemby is hyped but he's more like Zion in a way where he's seen as the consensus #1 pick by a wide margin and a generational talent as well, provided he can hold up physically. It's definitely not the most since LeBron but it is a considerable amount. He might have received that level of hype if he were in the US but he's not and that's kept him from receiving that level of coverage. It's probably the most hyped a foreign player has been though, including some like Ben Simmons who came here to play college ball.
I’d agree with this. I also forgot about zion. He’s as extraordinarily hyped too and teams ranked for him as well. Wembayama isn’t as unique a scenario from a hype/tanking perspective as is being claimed.

I've followed basketball all my life although I've not paid much attention to international or high school players except local products and when draft time comes around. Lebron stands alone when it comes to hyping a non-college player IMO. Keep in mind, prior to Lebron it was unheard of for ESPN to televise a routine high scool game let alone one that was televised solely because of one player. And from my perspective, Luka, Oden, Wemby and Wiggins come next on the hype ladder.
I’d add zion that group.

Been saying it for years Trae Young is not good.

Now he’s on the block. Almost guaranteed they’re gonna move him out west if they do move him.

We aren’t comparing the abilities of the players. We are talking about the hype and tanking. You are 100% wrong about oden he was hyped enormously and it was a full blown tankathon for him. And that was without the proliferation of social media that wembayama has today
Correct. So much so that people almost ignored Durant.

I wouldn’t go that far. Around draft time there was some legitimate conversation about whether Durant should first. It was by no means close to the majority opinion, but it was out there. Oriole forget that there was also a very small minority of thought that Melo should be the #1 over Lebron after having lead cuse to the national championship as a frosh.

I said Oden was mega hyped but he wasn’t a unicorn or something we hadn’t seen before. Plus his body was a ticking time bomb. Hype vs hype it’s Wemby. If he went to college in the states he’d be breaking NIL records.

Nobody ignored Durant there were a ton of people saying to take him #1 especially with Oden and his injury history
It was 2007 and the Duncan/Shaq’s were still dominating the center position. Even Yao was all-NBA that year…

I remember ppl saying Durant should be playing more like a tradition 7ft. So micro-brained in retrospect.

Who would want him? The Mavs? They ain't got much to trade.

Maybe OKC would give up a couple picks, but I kind of doubt it.

Really?

If they shop Young I think they will get a pretty hefty haul.

I think he is overrated as well, but that Hawks organization is a mess and we're only 2 years removed from him nearly carrying them to the finals. I think if he didn't screw up his ankle against the Bucks they would have won that series. Which would have been great for us, we would have smoked them.

Someone will pay out the nose for him, a similar haul to what Utah got for Mitchell.

Knicks would be my guess.

Nah hype v hype it’s likely a wash. As was already evidenced oden was literally as exposed as possible for his time. I think you’re experiencing recency bias combined with being influenced by a more technology driven age.

He is the reason they are a mess.

He's a cancer that has chased off 3 coaches. He is selfish and not an efficient scorer. Don't you realize what a huge red flag it is that Atlanta is willing to dump him just as he is entering his prime?

I seriously think they will have difficulty getting much for him.

I don't necessarily disagree with any of that... of your first 2 statements.

But I disagree with your last one. He is going to bring in a haul.

Teams love to ignore red flags when it comes to trading for all-stars. If he moves it is going to be for the ol "4 1st round picks, a swap or 2 and some decent talent".

I'm not saying it will be a GOOD trade, but if they trade him it will be along those lines.

Swap Trae for Gobert. Minnesota gets a PG, moves KAT back to Center. Atlanta can trade Capela for spare parts. Gobert mans the paint so Collins doesn't have to. DeJounte and Collins carry the offense. Rare win for both sides but they're both taking overhyped "stars" from places they don't fit. Might even be able to do it without picks involved.

I think Gobert isn't worth squadoosh right now.

I don't do that trade if I'm Atlanta... heck, I think I'd rather have Capela, at least he isn't hated by his teammates.

Quinn Snyder is their coach so if anyone can get the most out of Gobert, it's him. That's one of the reasons I could see it happening. Snyder had no issues with Gobert, it was Mitchell he'd bump heads with.

You say that but Dejonte Murray is now considered more valuable, and he was traded for three firsts and nobody considered him a cancer.

if the hawks get two firsts I would be surprised. It could happen I suppose if one of the teams that has horded them think they are ready to compete and decide they have two many young guys.

I would say Kyrie Irving is more toxic than Trae Young but teams keep throwing money and picks at him to have him on their roster.

The DJM trade was odd. It happened so quick that no one really knew he was on the block. San Antonio probably could have received more had they waited and shopped him a little more publicly but it seems they got a good offer and jumped on it. That was before the Gobert deal also when the price for stars or near stars rose exponentially.

Trae will bring back no less than 2 picks, probably 3, if he's not dealt for a similar high profile player.

Kevin Love picking the Heat to get 3 minutes in the play in and eliminated is perfect

I’m telling you… you’re way off. I will put a guarantee stamp on it.

The way the league works, I bet Young still has more value.
