No. Tanking just doesn't work for the Suns!
Hardly. If you understand the math you have no better than a 30% chance to get a top 2 pick no matter how bad you are. That means the vast majority of the time it doesn't work for any team, even in a year with 2 top prospects.

Obviously they hit gold with Embiid, although he hardly played for his first 3 years.

Ben Simmons at #1 is... dubious, he does have some individual accolades but his value, even at his best, was questionable.

After those two the Sixers draft record is a horror show. Evan Turner, Markelle Fultz, Jahlil Oakafor all taken in the top 3. Lotto picks used on Michael Carter Williams, Elfrid Payton. They drafted Bridges but traded him to us for Zharie Smith.

They also traded 2 firsts (along with a ton of other parts) for Andrew Bynum, who never played a single minute for them.
Looks like you beat me too it.

2014 they got Embiid, but then used another lottery pick on Elfrid Payton
2015 they took Okafor (another Center), but that draft was weak - only players picked after him that made at least one All-star game were Porzingis and Booker.
2016 they took Simmons number 1, again a subpar draft class. (Suns took Bender #4)
2017 - passed on Lonzo Ball, Jayson Tatum, Donovan Mitchell, for Fultz

I rather have Greyson on my team than play against him. Allen Grayson, Patrick Beverly and Matt Dellavedova are all from the same mold. Hard nose playing guards who could possibly cause a injury to opposing team's guards unfortunately. Grayson wouldn't be bad he may be ready to step into a bigger role too.
How about Derrick Favors? Power forward at only 31 years old seems he been in the for ages though. Anything left in the tank? Could be cheap contract.

If Grayson Allen has mellowed enough where he can bring an edge, sort of like Danny Ainge, without crossing the line I might consider it.

The only reason I mentioned Allen is his salary worked in a trade for Crowder and he has some ball handling skills. I haven't watched enough of Matt Dellavedova to comment.

I want no part of Patrick Beverley.

In regard to Favors, I consider him more of a center. Also he is not as athletic as I would like.

i hadnt really paid attention, you all probably have, but the Sixers big acquisitions over the summer are all former Suns.

PJ Tucker, D Melton, Danuel House.

And for a moment they were trying to get Crowder.

I wouldn't mind having Melton back right now.

I say we get Grayson Allen, lock him in a room somewhere under the 5G center and feed him green hotdogs served by a guy that looks like Luka.
Next time we play the Mavs we let him out of his cage.

Two birds one stone and all that rot.

Even if you only have a 14% chance that is still higher than every team in the NBA but two in the lottery. Tanking down to one of the worst 4 to 5 records still gives you a much better chance to win one of the top picks. For example, these were the odds last Lottery below. The Magic hit #1, Thunder hit #2 and the Rockets #3. All had more than a 12.5% chance. You can get lucky and move up a spot or two but most of the time it pays off to finish in the worst 4 to 5 spots. The bottom 4 to 5 had practically had no chance in comparison to get the top 2.

That's why the NBA is worried about a tankathon for those spots.

Rockets 14.0%
Magic 14.0%
Pistons 14.0%
Thunder 12.5%
Pacers 10.5%
Trail Blazers 9.0%
Kings 7.5%
Pelicans (via LAL) 6.0%
Spurs 4.5%
Wizards 3.0%
Knicks 2.0%
Thunder (via LAC) 1.5%
Hornets 1.0%
Cavaliers 0.5%

You would rather have him on Luka instead of Mikal?

The Lakers don't have control over their own pick until 2026.

If not for the dumb luck of some star forcing their way to the Lakers every 5 years or so, there is not a franchise in worse shape in the league than the Lakers, but that dumb luck probably isn't in the cards for a while... they're just too pathetic for anyone to force their way there.

They can't tank, they're old as hell, they've got zero young talent to build around, they have no tradeable assets outside of picks in 2027 and 2029... and the main reason those have value is that the rest of the league expects the Lakers to be in the toilet at the time.

If the Lakers actually pulled off a trade of Westbrook and 2 firsts for Hield and Turner... they're probably a playoff team for the next year or 2, but not a contender for the title.

It really is staggering how bad they messed that team up. No matter how much one might hate LeBron, you surround him with some good shooters and you're at least a contender, that has been an NBA rule for 15 years. The Lakers followed the formula in 2019/2020 and won a title... then they broke that team up for no reason, then they let LeBron force the Westbrook trade and now... they're a joke.

My favorite joke.

They will go for Booker on his next deal.
