The floors must have been softer back then, no one dives into them anymore like he used to.
I think it's a generational thing. In my day, it was all about diving and fighting for the ball. Now guys make multi millions. You don't want Bradley Beal diving for the ball and getting hurt!

Yep. Great athlete, not the most talented basketball player but he was fearless and had a great motor.

Exactly. He was all about effort and defense. A lot of young players wanting to play in the NBA could do well to watch some of his video.

I'm a bit annoyed with all of the national media's hand wringing about the lack of depth for the Suns and how big of a problem it will be. Denver is then cited as the model of depth.

Malone went 8 deep with his rotation in the playoffs. Their key bench players were Brown, Braun, and Green. So a mid-season acquisition, a late first round draft pick, and a past-his-prime vet. They all played their role well and helped win a championship, but none of them were considered part of an amazing Denver bench at the start of last season.

They found players that fit.

Yeah, Miami had the better depth and most of it was guys they got off the scrap heap and developed. Their problem was they lacked reliable production at the top. Even "Playoff Jimmy" had a decline in the finals, Bam was their most reliable production in that series.

I don't really see our depth being worse than it was last year.

Injuries at the top are our obvious red flag.

I'm listening to some blabber about the Celtics trade and they're saying the Celtics are likely to use the MLE this year because "the 2nd apron restriction will kick in a year from now"...

If that is correct we should have more to work with.

The odd thing is that we are deeper after the Beale trade. We got Beale plus two other pieces for CP3 who was gone anyway and Shamet (I think I am the only person that likes him).

The 2nd apron kicks in this year. It'll kick in for the Celtics then because of Jaylen Brown's extension so they either use it now or never. This is the last year they'll be able to with all their salaries.

I'm not sure that Boston is under it. They were nearly there already, no one of note is expiring and they just added quite a bit more salary with the KP trade, they also added a cap hold for their acquired pick.

I know for sure that certain aspects of the "apron" are being phased in over the next 2 seasons. Maybe only the 1st apron applies this year?

Just spit balling.

Spotrac, which is generally pretty accurate, shows us with a 5 million dollar MLE to use this year along with the bi-annual. Those cannot be combined, but it does give us 2 deals in the 5 million range.

We have cap holds of 12 million for Bazley and 6.6 for Craig... I imagine we will renounce our rights to both players or extend them for significantly smaller amounts of money, especially Bazley, he won't get more than the minimum and most likely won't be retained at all.

I really hope that's right. Maybe with the cap being like $5-6 million higher than anticipated we've just made it under that apron. Having the TP MLE and the BAE would provide some depth. That's enough for 2 good rotation players. Maybe bringing Jae Crowder back for one or the other is a possibility. I'd like a Center with 1 of them. We better use the BiAnnual because we can kiss that goodbye for the foreseeable future.

Just to note, BiAnnual Exception is $4.5 million. A player must sign a 2 year deal for that also. So no rentals there. It's basically like having 2 Taxpayer MLE though since the TP MLE is $5m.

I feel pretty certain we will use any and all available exceptions to fill out the roster now that Ishbia is the owner. I think a lot of posters here are still suffering from Stockholm Syndrome from all those years of Starver.

If we have them then we'll use them but I'd genuinely be surprised if we have them available. I'd imagine there will be some talk about it during the draft coverage later.

Not Ross or Warren? Or even Biyambo?

I recall him saying Warren is gone in his interview. I thought Warren was sneaky defensively. He had a couple steals against Denver when he finally got a chance. The problem with our bench is that none of them could consistently hit an open three. Part of that was due to Monty's sporadic distribution of playing time that didn't instill confidence and allow them to settle into a role. To be fair some of that was due to injuries during the season and a late season roster overhaul.

I've heard Warren is gone but I believe Woj or another ESPN guy said he'll probably resign here for the minimum.

We have a glut of wings. I like Goodwin as a potential 3rd PG as well but we need to add some quality bigs.
