I really hope not. He was essentially useless after he stopped hitting three pointers about the end of December… Maybe earlier.

He was 100% the worst defender

With the injuries our perimeter D was so bad last year with Washing and Lee. Lee stuck around because of his shooting % from deep, but their defense was horrible.

I recall him saying Warren is gone in his interview. I thought Warren was sneaky defensively. He had a couple steals against Denver when he finally got a chance. The problem with our bench is that none of them could consistently hit an open three. Part of that was due to Monty's sporadic distribution of playing time that didn't instill confidence and allow them to settle into a role. To be fair some of that was due to injuries during the season and a late season roster overhaul.

I always was a fan of Warren, i think we could definitely use some offensive punch off the bench and would like to see him come back. People forget how good the guy was, and he was never bad on defense because people always focused on his offensive game. But yes Monty messed with a lot of guys rhythm.

Is Vogel one of those starters and benches coaches where he keeps the two units separate (for the most part) - or does he let the game/match ups dictate who's on the floor?

Monty never had a solid rotation of bench players, so it's hard to know who can really play. Hopefully Frank Vogel can figure it out.

I've heard Warren is gone but I believe Woj or another ESPN guy said he'll probably resign here for the minimum.

We have a glut of wings. I like Goodwin as a potential 3rd PG as well but we need to add some quality bigs.
We don't have a glut of good wings. We need at least one 3 and D wing.

I wonder how Vogel is at developing players. We need a three point sniper at the 3 and a defensive rebounding passing center.

With that, I think we are good.

A glut of wings? Only player we currently have I would even call a wing is Wainright.

Hopefully we can resign Craig. Other than that, I don't think we have any, and in todays NBA you should have about 6 of them.

We do lack good wings. We had a bunch of smaller wings last year I expect Okogie and Craig to return. If Lee does as well, we're starting to fill roster spots and don't have much space. Hopefully we do better than Lee. Ross has been mentioned as a returning player and I'd take him over Lee for sure. He wasn't that bad on D when he wasn't forced to switch all the time. I think we'll see less switching.

I think we view wings differently. We had Ross, Lee, Wainwright, Craig, KD, TJ, Bazley and debwtably Booker and Shamet.

I view the league as morphing into 3 positions, playmakers, wings, and bigs.

Playmakers are PG's and combo guard who initiate offense, Booker is one offensively but more of a wing on defense.

Wings are basically everyone between playmakers and bigs. Teams have 3 typically on the floor at all times. The 3 & D guys who aren't quite PG's and not bigs.

Bigs is basically Centers, some PF's fit as well but fewer nowadays but Saric was a big. Ayton, Landale, and Biz.

Well we do define wings differently, I consider a wing somebody that could play and defend the 3 full time. In my mind I think they have to be 6'5 to 6'9 and be highly mobile.

KD could be described as a wing I guess, but not really. Same with Booker.

To me KD is a 4 and Booker is a 1 or 2. Can they play the 3 I guess, but not well. To me Ross is clearly a 2 and a bad defender I don't consider him a wing.

But also Lee, Warren, Ross, Shamet, Okogie, and Bazely are not on the team, and of those I think only Lee and maybe Bazely are likely to return.

Ayton will love the positivity of Vogel.
Yeah but he’s had good coaching and HOF teammates and that hasn’t gotten him to want to produce consistently. I have zero faith in the dude, he got paid now he’s even less motivated than before. I say trade him 100% don’t think he’s ever gonna be the guy. He wants to score and even shoots 3s he has little desire to be a rebounder/defender…

There are factors favoring Ayton staying with the Suns.

Here it is. Vogel and JJ playing their options now. Gotta do this either to keep Ayton or make other teams believe you will.

After just listening to Gambo again, I am now convinced Ayton isn't getting traded today.

Sounds like Vogel really wants him, so we will probably at least try him out for the first few months.

Jeez I hope there are some leftover decent players to sign for the minimum.

I don't think so either. The reasoning is that Vogel's defensive system requires an athletic center. Vogel thinks Ayton can be that center. So he is saying that unless a team can offer up 2 to 3 solid roation players (including a big man)....Ayton is likely staying.

Lets look at our likely depth chart now with present roster resignings.

Guard rotation: Booker, Beale, Payne, Goodwin, Lee, Lee
Wing rotation: Durant, Craig, Okogie, Ish, Todd, Bazely
Big rotation: Ayton, Landale, Biz

It is not horrible depth. The need is three-point shooting in the wings and maybe a big.

I think another power forward might be the most pressing need.

The guards seem set with Beal/Book/Payne/Goodwin and if Ayton is actually motivated, that’s a solid big man rotation, but man, after KD, that wing group is fried.
