I think Payne and Goodwin are enough for guards, Goodwin at this point should be better than Carter, and he's a little taller.
That leaves us with a total of 4 guards and at least three of them are known to get injured at least occasionally. We need at least one more reliable guard, if not two.

Just think of it like this.
1. PHX can only sign minimum deals and re-sign their own FA's to above minimum deals (except Okogie, no Bird's Rights)
2. Only a DA trade can net them players, a salary dump doesn't open up cap space to sign FA's and does not open up MLE or BAE.
That's pretty much what I have seen on other podcasts aside from ESPN, too. It may not be totally accurate, but it's a good cheat sheet method of what we are dealing with. Actually, I'd like more guys from last year signed, because trade pieces will be key for us going forward. The only way to have those pieces be meaningful is with salaries above the vet minimum. Plus new need to hit on our draft picks every other year. Toumani actually looks as NBA ready as a second round guy can. He has the physical body, and the motor. Just have to see if he can adjust to NBA speed and skill sets.

Our four projected starters, DA, KD, BB and DB averaged 98.1 ppg last season. The suns as a team averaged 114ppg. If we run an 8-man rotation, the other 4 guys would need to average less than 4ppg each to beat last year's team scoring average.

The only thing I have read consistently, the Suns have the Saric trade exception for $5 million but no draft picks to use it.

Money would work as well, but I don't see it discussed much. The Suns only have $1.5 million to use.

I think it's good to like February, so maybe it can be used later if the Suns acquire a draft pick.

Apparently the Saric trade exception can be used to pick up a player off the waiver wire as well, provided the salary fits.

That's nuts. Most likely thing is that Kyrie is using that as leverage with Dallas. But if that was the case, why the hell would the Suns go along with it?
Kyrie is nuts! He's the one guy who might sign for the min just because. Or maybe to engineer a Irving for Ayton swap of some sort?

Tomorrow should be fun. Lots of bluffing going on, but with Mat Ishbia, one really never knows what will happen.

Like that's going to work. Dallas will just say, "Phoenix can only offer you vet minimum. Here's our offer. Take it or leave it! LOL!"

I guess Ayton could be traded to make it work.
So for us, we would need two guys back to make it work. We would have no bigs at the moment, so we would need a big, and we aren't taking back the two mentioned earlier. I could see a wing plus Irving at the least. We would need to come out with some sort of starting lineup. Otherwise, I think we are stuck with DA.

@Yuma

Can you imagine having Booker, Durant, Beal and Irving on the same team?

Suns would be running a three guard offense.

Sounds like Ayton for Kyrie is a pipe dream too...he'd have to take a huge pay cut, and we wouldn't be able to keep Craig/Joc, etc.

I think I see Mat Ishbia clearing the path.

We got the best out of McGee when he played here before. He's been on a downward spiral since then.

I'm joking around but the Suns would have to take something back.

OK, Beal and Kyrie on the floor together with Booker and KD plus one. Vogel likes defense. Anyone see a problem here?
