If you also believe Fashanu is the better prospect, shouldn’t you also agree that who we should be aiming for over Alt(if they’re both there)?

I’d rather my OT prospects be better pass-blockers than run-blockers coming out.
Alt was credited with zero sacks and only 6 or 8 pressures last year which is pretty elite.

That already happened.

What about the Lions with Hockenson

Or the Broncos with Fant

Or the Bucs with OJ Howard

Or the Lions again with Ebron
Thinking about the wrong Bird. I meant the Falcons.

Bowers is a much better prospect than any of those guys.

I get that, but it’s a domino effect. Pitts wasn’t the prospect Bowers is. Hockenson wasn’t the prospect Pitts is. Fant wasn’t the prospect Hockenson is, etc.
It's hard to evaluate Pitts though because he plays in a 1980s offense. Granted, a lot of Pitts potential was pure projection. Bowers ain't like that.
He’s a great player & all, but under no circumstance we should use a top 10 pick on a TE. Well, unless I can look into the future & see he’ll become Gronk 2.0, lol.
As a long time Cardinals fan, nothing would be more Cardinals than to draft Bowers and have him catch 50 passes per year, for 550 yards and 3 TDs

I remember the year we got Larry, there was a TE who was rated highly and many wanted him. Winslow??

I prefer Fashanu to Alt.
Alt seems like he will be beaten by speed pretty easily in the NFL.

Bigger question - what do we do with DJ who still has 2 years left on his contract and is a team leader?

If we are blowing it up (new QB), then we trade DJ as well and can start over with bookend OT's.
If we are keeping Kyler, we need to build around him (add talented players). You don't get there by a replacing a position of strength on this team when there are so many other holes. SO MANY!

Eh none of those guys were even remotely as accomplished as Bowers though. It's not even close. Bowers is likely the best TE prospect ever from an accomplishment perspective. None of those TEs were really the focal point of a passing game the way Bowers is.

With that said, while I like Bowers, I am cognizant of how much of a waste it can be to draft non-premium positions high.
Pitts went in the top 10.

Drafting a TE in the first round is a luxury and we don't have that type of team.

Plus - I haven't seen many of them work out/be worth it.

There is a reason there has only been 1 Travis Kelce in the entire NFL for so many years.

@Harry

How is this draft graded for talent vs the last few years?

So far - feels less talented overall.

2nd question - what about in areas of need for us - IOL, DL, Edge, CB?

IOL seems terrible this year.

Pitts went in the top 10.
Thanks Captain Obvious. :p

Going top ten isn't what we are talking about. Bowers was an elite player, among the best seasons ever for a tight end as a true freshman. He was a Mackey award winner as a sophomore.

Pitts was a nice college player who tested through the roof, but has been mostly a disappointment based on the hype. There is at least reasonable expectation that based on actual performance that Bowers should be better, but that isn't given based on the average NFL TE play.
