I agree Hump isn't playing as well but a quality LG next to him would help.

If Monti follows your plan I wouldn't be upset. I do think Hump is part of the culture they are trying to establish.

I considered that. Also considered moving Hump to LG... but I feel pretty certain he would not accept it gracefully. I like Hump...but we have always needed just a little bit more from the LT position. With a couple guys available who would be solid upgrades I would just pull the trigger and lock down Kylers bookends for the next 12 years.
But I would get value out of Hump while he still has it... he ain't a great starter but he is a legit starter and several teams would love to have him.
Rumor has it Van Pran is cerebral and a strong leader...a true OC that reads defenses and calls protections...

Has anyone heard from Jon Gaines?
I’ve mentioned moving hump to guard as well. I think his size and mobility would allow him to be really really good in that spot.

I don’t think MHJ is that athletic.

I don't think MHJ will test particularly well. He'd do fine in the 40 and 3 cone but I think VJ, BJ etc will be meh.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see him skip everything except the 40 and 3 cone.

I don't see the Bengals paying Higgins and Chase (2025 FA).

I would expect they try the Vikings model and its a good year to do it.

Agree but franchising him is a possibility then letting him walk in 2025.

They probably still see a superbowl window and letting a proven guy walk for a 50/50 rookie is risky.

Maybe they draft a WR too to bring on behind him in round 2 or 3.

MHJ reportedly already runs sub 4.4. Even if he hits 4.4 at the combine, it is going to be amazing for his size.

Yeah but getting a solid cost controlled pass catcher is golden in the NFL. With current top receiver salaries, you'd love to have a good player locked into $7 million per year for the next four, or whatever it is they would pay with a later first round pick.

You've just made the case for Newton because of the death of talent at IDL and made the case for waiting on WR.
I disagree. The issue with Newton is that he is a size/speed outlier. Yes, so is Aaron Donald, but Donald is the exception and not the rule. I don't know that come draft time, Newton will grade better than any of those top 5 or 6 WRs. What you are potentially doing is advocating for reaching for a player based upon need.

The top of this WR class is reminding me of last year's TE class. It is so rarely talented that if you have a need, you have to consider double-dipping on the talent pool.

EDIT: So yes, Newton might be the guy if he ends up grading equally, but he has a huge hill to overcome based upon his measurables.

im totally adjusting my expectations on the draft -- where it used to be thinking top 3 plus the Texans at #12 or so

im now thinking the Cards at 8-10 overall with the Texans in the 20s (would it really surprise anyone if the Texans won the AFC south?)

I think is is good if you are trying to project where the Cardinals will fall. I am just trying to get a good feel for the top 30 or so players in the draft class and how they fit with AZ.

But there's no guarantee you get that. With receivers maybe more than any position.

Higgins is a known stud. Any draft pick may not be.

I expect Bengals to make the playoffs and pick in the 20s by which point it's a toin coss. You might get Justin Jefferson, you might get Kadarius Toney.

Tee Higgins is a good outside NFL WR. He's never made a pro bowl, never made an all pro team.

That's a pretty capacious definition of "stud." Paying these guys big money to move teams is a classic free agency mistake.

I think you don't strategically say, "This is a great TE class, so we have take one!" That would have been a very dubious approach for Monti this off season after taking McBride last year.

Trying to project future draft classes is a fools errand. And also believing the hype of a draft class can get you into trouble. What happens when MHJ is an injury prone wreck, Odunze is a bust, and Franklin ends up as the best player and he was drafted mid round two? I think when you have depth like this, you can wait.

Ojulari currently leads all rookie pass rushers in sacks because when you have depth, you can wait.

Usually the biggest mistake is Made by the team signing players like Higgins.

I think we’ll end the season drafting in the 8-10 range. In that case, welcome Malik Nabers.

After trading down?

Atlanta sucks; we barely beat their backup QB at home.
I think every team left on the schedule not named the 9ers & Eagles are all winnable. Does that mean we’ll beat them? Nah.

I think we can at least get 3 more wins.
