i read a scout say once that WRs that are also accomplished punt returners tell them that the short area burst and change of direction they want is likely there

vs that straight line speed that often doesnt translate

Keon Coleman fits that description.

I gave Monti a pass last offseason. However, if he does nothing this offseason then he's basically planning for just 2025. Loser mindset indeed.
It's very easy to justify doing anything as doing something to improve the team. We're going to have a pretty large draft class and a bunch of signings just to fill out the roster.

I think people are saying that Monti should make at least a few ambitious moves this offseason to demonstrate a desire to be better in 2024.

I thought that was Kyzir White? Maybe the one years were only worth a look? I wouldn't go long term with anyone on this rebuild unless they showed out for me this season. Better to be done after one year if they don't fit your guidelines. I look at it they are keeping options open. If a guy looks good, you just make him an offer after that.
Very bad way of building a roster. This way you have no long-term stability moving forward in the rebuild, and, if anyone on prove it deals lights it up, hey, you did them a favor and gave them major leverage in the open market while making it harder for us to sign long-term.

A GM has to trust his evaluations. If they think a guy is the answer in FA, sign them long-term. Nothing wrong with 1-year prove it deals here and there, but that's not how you build the majority of a roster. Also, as posted already, Kyzir is short term and cheap. I'd rather have him locked in for another year, maybe two, instead of just next season.

Listening to Cowherd. He heard the Commanders are seriously considering trading up for Caleb Williams.

Does that basically screw us out of trading down to the Patriots.
Bears would take Marvin Harrison JR. No need to take Daniels if you already have Fields.
No, because they'd likely have to trade up to #1 to get him, meaning the Bears wouldn't pick ahead of us.

No the point was for the Cards to trade down and still get MHJ like these guys are hoping for.

If the Bears trade with the Commanders we're stuck with the choice of massive haul for Drake Maye (Patriots) or just take MHJ at 2 so the Bears dont take him at 3. The goal was to do both. Trade down and still get MHJ.

The Bears are going to trade down and surround Fields with a WR/OL top-10 combo. When it doesn’t work out they’ll have three 1st rd picks next year to figure it out. The Bears are going to Bear.

If in back to back years, this team decides not to draft a foundational pass rusher and a generational talent at WR for a boatload of Paris Johnsons and and BJ Oujularis, they are complete and utter morons.

Legette was one of the best receivers this year, but don't forget he has only one year of big time production and he will be 23 in January. There is a good sized track record of players that fit his profile that have busted in the NFL.
Correct. I’m not passing on MHJ to draft Legette. But I might draft both, lol!

I don't either, which is a crime considering this is a fast rebuild league built on parity.
I disagree Stout. I’m not saying we will compete for the Super Bowl, but when you see teams that are currently “ in the Hunt” it’s where I expect to be next year barring catastrophic injuries.

Yes we have to step up in free agency at some key positions, especially at wr ( MHJ won’t be enough) and d-line.
Of course we need a really good draft. We might see 3-4 rookies starting on defense and Kyler needs to be AT LEAST adequate with his new surrounding talent.

Now there’s “pressure” to draft the consensus most talented player in the draft for a talent depleted team? Poor monti. So much pressure.

(Apologies for the snark - seemed warranted)

in the FWIW file:

Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks started on the prospect rankings and covered the WRs. Their take:

MHJ and Odunze are the top 2 talents

then Malik Nabers and Keon Coleman a notch below

very deep class

The problem with trading down currently is the options are Washington and New England @ 3 and 4 and then Atlanta at 10. Only way I’m going down to 10 is if there are 3 1st rounders involved plus some. Maybe the Giants would want to move on but they just signed Jones to an extension.

So ideally Bears take QB1 or whoever is at 4 goes up to 1, trade down to 3 with whoever’s in that spot and we still get MHJ.

Who knows maybe Chicago is more inclined to take the best OL and really lean into the run game.

Bears also have about $80 million in space so signing some veteran WRs to pair with Fields could make sense.

TBF at least it isnt giving up drafting talents like Tyler Linderbaum or George Pickens for Hollywood Brown and Myjai Sanders. Progress I guess.
