I think FA will shape our draft a lot. Significantly better FA options on the defensive side than the offensive side IMO. If Monti decides to upgrade the roster, my guess is he uses FA a lot for the defense.
The only caveat to that, is Murray's big contract numbers kick in next year. Building as much as possible through the draft will be paramount. So that means you have to be very value conscious in your FA picks. So no-one should get mad that big name guys are not likely to land with the Cards.

Legette was one of the best receivers this year, but don't forget he has only one year of big time production and he will be 23 in January. There is a good sized track record of players that fit his profile that have busted in the NFL.

That pull-away speed seems amazing. The thing with WRs though is that the three-cone and short-shuttle numbers are going to be more important -- especially at that size. Everyone is fast in the NFL -- even faster than the SEC. You have to be a precise route runner and fluid in and out of breaks to gain separation.

Hard to tell from those clips if he has that. Hakeem Butler had size and speed but couldn't move.

If Monti, who just punted on one FA offseason, goes cheap in another, he's not the answer as GM. I'm not saying we should go all Daniel Snyder, but if we want a few high-end talents--and we must have them to rebuild, because we can't do it through the draft alone--Monti can't be a cheapskate.

Legette is also thickly built. He's kind of a YAC version of former SC receiver Alshon Jeffrey. Similar size but very different play styles.

I badly wanted Deebo when he was coming out because he was such a monster at South Carolina.

i read a scout say once that WRs that are also accomplished punt returners tell them that the short area burst and change of direction they want is likely there

vs that straight line speed that often doesnt translate

Gotta be patient too. The bigger guys need a season or two to get those cut techniques down in the NFL. Randy Moss was an exception, but he really wasn't packing the pounds. You have to draft these guys knowing they are going to hit their stride maybe season 2, probably season 3.

I can vouch for that. Punt return is more of a basketball quick cut techniques. Returning kick offs is more of a track meet sprint. At least that's how I viewed it when I played.

The prevailing wisdom, was this year Kyler was going to be out at LEAST half the season. SO the thinking was, why pay guys when you were probably going to lose anyway? Every sports show I listened to and watched said the same thing about the Cards. Don't look for them to be big players in free agency last year.

I also think, for my thoughts only, what's more bang for your buck? The big name pass rusher you overpay to get, or that same money going to two solid younger OL linemen that may anchor your OL for 10 years? For my thinking, I hope Monti is more value oriented in the free agents he brings in.

I watch the Chargers, and Mack is having a career season. We likely can't keep him at the high salary he got from us. Going to have to draft Outside Linebacker again for LA. They found a good one last draft in Tai Tuipulotu. They need at least one more this draft.

They didn't need to be big players, nor did they need to limit themselves to one-season signings. There was no reason not to sign a few middle-of-the-road, roster building FAs to long-term contracts. None whatsoever.

I thought that was Kyzir White? Maybe the one years were only worth a look? I wouldn't go long term with anyone on this rebuild unless they showed out for me this season. Better to be done after one year if they don't fit your guidelines. I look at it they are keeping options open. If a guy looks good, you just make him an offer after that.

Kyzir was the "big money" signing that Monti landed last Spring. Two years, 11 million.

I guess Froholdt is an okay signing. Strong was okay. But overall? Mostly a waste of space and time. The problem is, no one is really worth much of an offer. Monti HAS to do better than that.

I'd say its both on the same page. They dont think this team is ready to compete until 2025.

Hope not.

That’s a good way to pay top dollar. You pay a gm to assess and project talent and hope to lock players into appropriate term contracts that are value based. Will you have to tear those up if they over perform? Maybe. More likely extend which isn’t a bad thing. But if you’re always wait for them to prove they’re good you pay premium prices. That’s like the worst way to build a good team.

Listening to Cowherd. He heard the Commanders are seriously considering trading up for Caleb Williams.

Does that basically screw us out of trading down to the Patriots.
Bears would take Marvin Harrison JR. No need to take Daniels if you already have Fields.

People are defending the Cardinals on doing nothing for the third straight FA season already? Good lord.

Unless we end up with the 3rd draft pick, I don't really see us getting MHJ.

This is a losing mindset. There is very little justified reasoning to not add talent to your franchise.

Would you mind sharing a few names, if you have anyone or two in mind?
