If something happens it’s always a distinct possibility. It’s a risk. It’s a gamble. Monti lost this gamble.
Thats a silly statement, we wont know for a few years. we have a 1,3 and 5 from Houston this year, so until we see how those players end up performing we have no idea.
Right now, we pick up a bunch of picks as picked up a heck of an NFL tackle.

Have to factor in what we gave up to move up to grab PJJ too. And you’re right that we won’t know the full outcome for a few years - and it’s a lot of players to track. Like have to track who Houston took with 105 also. But I think most of us understand that the gleaming jewel in this deal was this years first and it’s value plummeted.

1 year in, you would take Anderson over Paris Johnson, and a 1st, 3rd and 5th rd pick.
It’s Anderson, Kellee Ringo (105th), Sam LaPort, will Levis for PJJ, Ojulari, oh good lord with the Texans, Detroit and titans trades all being interconnected it’s almost impossible for me to keep track of what the cards sent out verses received. Maybe I’ll give it a shot tomorrow with some paper and a pen.

Can’t look at it that way because we had to trade back up using additional assets to her Paris. Hence my prior post.

Cards got a potential cornerstone offensive tackle and another first round pick. How anyone can criticize that is way beyond me.

Shortly after picking Paris Johnson it was widely reported that they would have taken him at #3, meaning that Ossenfort basically got the team a free first rounder this year.

The team that should be really mad are the Panthers for taking Young. Of course, if the Panthers take Stroud, do the Texans take Anderson or Young? Maybe those future trades never happen.
I didn't like passing on Anderson at the time but thought the return was fair in the trade. But that was also thinking the Cards would have 2 top 5 picks this year.
Can't really complain the Texans were very good and exceeded expectations. But it's also why you take the elite prospect, ala Harrison, instead of trading down for a bunch of question marks. Hope Monti learns something from this. Draft capital is good, drafting elite players is better.

As long as the Texans lose next week (at Chiefs or at Bills) - I think we should be picking 25th.

It will be tight if Green Bay or Tampa Bay win.

It's TOTALLY Cardinal-esque that this is the year a 1st year Coach and rookie QB win the Super Bowl and we end up picking 32nd.....I would not be shocked in the least if this happened to us lol

Totally agree. It isn't like we passed on Terrel Suggs for Skillet Hands and Calvin Pace. When you get a shot at an elite player, bank him. I always would have taken Anderson and nothing has happened to change my mind.

I liked how Paris improved as the year went on. He is physical, he might be a good starter for a long time. But, he is not an EDGE player.

The thing that really irritated me as the game wound down yesterday was seeing Myjai Sanders get so much playing time. Why is he gone and Cam Thomas here instead? Why was Ojulari drafted? He doesn't look better than Sanders. Don't understand that one. I would like to know what went into evaluating inherited players.

Definitely a mistake - par for the course in our history.

Turns out - it was a weak draft and that was a bad year for the 2 for 1.

Passing on Suggs and AP were awful decisions.

Yes but OT is a premium position as well.

Too early to judge the trade. Although Will Anderson was solid in his rookie year, it's not like he was dominant for being the #3 pick in the draft.
47th in TFL
51st in sacks

He (like Paris) will get better for sure.

I don't agree with the implication that an elite EDGE player intrinsically has more value than an elite OT. Their relative value is arguable with one player protecting the QB and one player sacking the QB. It's the same argument with cornerback verses wide receiver. The two positions are opposing forces. IMHO, after the QB the primacy in value of any of these four other positions is debatable.

I'd argue that if you think Murray is your most important player, then OT is more important than edge because Murray is made more effective by the OT.

Myjai Sanders has 7 tackles all year. Not sure that type of production is worth the associated rant.
DeMeco Ryans thinks he is worth having on the roster and playing him behind Anderson Jr in a playoff game. Good enough to question letting him go with no snaps, no explanation. If he was 32, I wouldn't even mention him.

Good for you. Those last three items are hope that didn't contribute anything in 2023.

Cornerstone offensive tackle is a heck of a projection for a guy who was pretty mid his rookie season. Everything else is cope.

If you can’t see how this comment (if accurate) cuts against monti, I don’t know what to tell you.

I agree with all of this. If we drafted Anderson last year we would have ended up with two blue chip players (Anderson and whomever we draft this year, assuming we don’t trade down). I think monti’s hope was that we would end up with two in this draft plus other assets, but the Texans didn’t cooperate. So instead we likely end up with one blue chip player (again if we don’t trade down) and a bunch of other assets. I think the error was in passing on blue chippers when your team has almost none of those and they are difficult to come by.

I would agree with this. But the problem is that at present I believe Anderson is viewed as a greater prize than Paris. Of course we still need to see how the other parts of the deal play out. But the likelihood of any of them being of greater value than Anderson is unlikely.
