I think that John Brown was actually a little inconsistent this game. By my count, Brown was the intended target on 5 passes in the second and third quarter (when the offense seemed to bog down) and only came up with 1 reception. He was bailed out by two or three holding penalties on that poor Breaux kid, several of which were pretty questionable.

If Brown's going to get those targets, he's got to cash in on them. It seemed like the offense only came out of the rut once Palmer starting looking more at Fitzgerald.

Minter was absolutely getting leveled by OL and one time just bounced off Khiry Robinson.

I don't think the calls were questionable and I don't think he was "bailed out" by them at all. The kid was trying to negate Brown's speed by grabbing. Getting the call because you are faster than your opponent IS cashing in. A PI call is as good as a reception.

My thoughts....

1. Fitz is still our most reliable receiver. Hoping Floyd picks it up with a few more weeks of healing for his hand.

2. Even though I knew Calais was going up against a top-notch opponent, I still expected more. Surprised that our Rush defense graded out as well as it did. Watching the game, it felt we got run over.

3. Stunned it took so long to bottle up those screen/bubble passes to the RB. I'll bet that is a MAJOR area of focus for this week.

4. Zero pass rush. Zero. Our first pick next year HAS to be a pass rusher. Anyone likely to be available in the low 30's? :)

5. Honey Badger played out of his mind. Can he keep that intensity up all year? I'd usually say no... but he just might get better.

6. Darren Fells has to be the surprise player of the game. I'm hoping BA uses him more than just a 6th OL.

7. OL opened some big holes for the running game. Not consistently, but they were there. OL still has option to significantly improve their play as the season wears on. I'm very optimistic.

8. I kept looking for Bethel. Very surprised at his lack of snaps.

9. If this game was played last year, it would have been PP's best game of the season. Hoping he has a MUCH better season!!!

10. I went into the game expecting to crow about CJ being our best RB option for the year. That said, Ellington looked really good. Hope he gets healthy soon, but while he's away, I really like CJ and our RB corps. (Did Stepfan Taylor see the field? I don't remember seeing him out there.)

Go Cards!!!

I didn't record the game to re-watch, but I believe the reason Brown's early game caused the Saints to press with help over the top of him the rest of the game. I believe this is what opened up Fitz over the second half of the game. That was my initial view without having re-watched.
