Holy Moly! I am watching 300 for the first time ever. How in the world did I not see this in the movies. Unbelievably excellent.

I suck for not seeing this sooner.

Yes you do. In fact. I feel cheap for not owning this on HDDVD yet.

eh, I was one of the few Army people I know who thought this movie was only above average. Visually stunning, but shallow character development made it so I couldn't care less about any of the Spartans.

Good lord. Who needs character development. You learned everything you needed to know in the opening salvo. They were bred to die and do it with smiles on their faces. Everything else was just gravy.

I just watched it. I thought the sex scene before going to battle was forced, visually, and seemed cheesy. Other than that, I liked it a lot. And I'm a character development kind of guy. I didnt need individual development. And I got all I needed in the group mentality.

Definitely a beer swilling movie. The kind of movie you watch before putting new tiles on your roof. Or joining the Army. Or getting a tattoo.

IMHO, the only difference between 300 and any other "gladiator" kind of movie was the visual effects. The cool, slow motion, "Matrix" looking stuff was pretty cool, but as to the story, acting, etc, it was just another "gladiator" movie. Pretty gory, too.

That being said, I enjoyed it, but probably won't ever watch it again.

Captain Oveur: Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?

I thought the sex scene was fine. Most sex scenes in movies are forced.

It wasnt bad, it just didnt seem particularly necessary, or all that hot for that matter.

I always look at my wife before dinner and throw out my whitest, straightest teeth smile and yell "Tonight! We dine in hell!"

What a cornball line. But in the context of this film, for some reason, I loved it.

They picked the right guy to deliver it. I don't know if I'd follow him into the depths of hell, but I might be inspired enough to follow him to 19th Ave. and Broadway. For a few minutes, anyway. Wouldn't wear red, though.

I am with you. Can we stop by Los Dos Molinos one last time though?

just got around to seeing this last night - really didn't like it - it was OK and fairly entertaining

i really didn't like the cinematography in this context at all - i know what it was, but it didn't do anything for me like Sin City (which I did enjoy)

maybe because there is a historical perspective as well to this that it turned me off - really didn't care for a single character in thejust movie, the fighting was cheesey, the lines were cheesey

i dunno - i just didn't dig it

You also have to remember that the movie was based on a comic book that was loosely based on historical events. I think people forget that when watching the movie. It's supposed to be cartoony, and virtually none of it is really historically accurate.

If you want to read a great novel version of the history (fairly accurate in many respects) read Steven Pressfield's "Gates of Fire." One of my favorite novels.

Actually, although it is minimal, it is accurate in a few respects. Namely, they were outflanked because a traitor went to the Persians and told them about a goat path in the mountains.

Well, "virtually none of it" doesn't really mean "all of it". ;)
