Russ,

no one answered your question about Xerxes. It the actor that play's Paulo/Pablo on 'Lost'.. He is 6'2" or 6'3" can't remember.

seriously, he looks Yau Mingesque in the movie. Maybe Leoneides is
short?

How long before this becomes a Krepitch joke?

Edit your're right, the dude is Brazilian too. Would have never guessed that.

I think it looks really amazing--such a cool filtering and effect process they used. Unfortunately, the B-Movie cast might make this film all substance and no depth. We'll have to see.

And the Director has done just one other movie (the Dawn of the Dead remake). Oh, and Michael Jordan's Playground...

Wow, I guess I am one of the only ones that saw this that felt it was exactly as Chaplin said it might be. Substance( great visual, great battle scenes, very good battle field dialoge) but short on depth( none of the subplots were developed and none of the dialoge was even semi believeable. What a disappointment. 3 out of 4 of the guys I saw it with said it was terrible from the standpoint of a story development but good as an action flick. Which is exactly as I saw it. The betrayal plot that the story hinged around was terrible. It could have been developed much better. The oracle and the freaks was so out of place for greek mythology and It was as though the entire movie they were fighting for Hells Gate rather than for Sparta and the people of Sparta (which you never see). They were just a bakers dozen of old men on a council and one young guy that thought he new everything. I would like to say the things I am saying are spoilers but if it prevents anyone other than adrenaline junkies from wasting there money on this than it was worth it I suppose. The other mythology movies are much better story wise and this is no where near the class of the Lord of the Rings saga. I guess you could say I really hated it and I love action movies.

Oh. Hell. Yes. This movie was all I thought it would be, and I thought great things for it. Was it a deeply involved and developed plot? Nope, and neither was the graphic novel. Was it an incredible and highly-stylized action film? Uh, yeah baby!!! Made me want to beat my chest, sound a barbaric yawp, and kill some people, eat some meat, and drag home a few women by the hair...which would have been interesting, as I saw it in the UPenn area of Philly ;)

As evidence of just how true the look is to the original Frank Miller comic, I present you:

Exhibit A

Exhibit B

Exhibit C

And there's a TON more that seem to be taken directly from the comic that I can't find online...

I liked it a lot. I thought the sub-plot with the queen and the Spartan senators was unnecessary, but overall it was very good.

The Persians stole the show for me with their outrageous costumes, exotic beasts and mutants. The look of the film was outstanding.

The movie was just okay, the look of the film was great, the Spartans are "tru warriors", but I give the movie a 7/10.

Wow. Stunningly bad.

Such awful overacting. Bad directing, bad writing.

If I was gay I would have enjoyed it more. The computer enhanced abs are sure to entice Dback Jon!!!

Other than that, awful.

Agree totally, but this is the perfect movie for a 17 to 22 year old gamer adreneline junkie. Very Testosterone driven. But overall very bad acting and terrible plot development. I guess that is why no big stars would touch such a farce of a film.

There's a difference between "bad" acting and "no" acting, and this movie cast no-names because there was barely any acting to be done. I'm not sure how plot development became such a huge deal to people on this board---it's basically one huge battle over the course of the movie--not much room for a complicated plot. Kind of reminiscent of a comic book. Shocking! ;)

Fixed that for you. Gamers are a lot older these days. I have been gaming stong for 20+ years going back to Super Mario Bros on the NES. (I have gamed before that, but that is when it really took off for me)

Plot development and theme development in movies is what makes me think about the history of movies like this. They really weren't interested in telling the story of why the 300 wanted to hold the gate. They just jumped right in to the battle and never developed why they didn't want to be ruled. It was entertaining cinematography but that was about it for me.

How long does it take to explain that? Lesse, they're going to kill or enslave the men and rape the women. I thought it was explained pretty well.
