I still think the Matt Leenart is going to be semi-successful in the NFL. I hope he doesn't go anywhere in the NFCW.

Leinart--if healthy--would thrive in a WCO. I'll maintain my position that he is still a good QB who could do well. I am sure he would love the chance to stick it to Cards twice per season.

Had Leinart declared for the draft in 2005, he would have more than likely been their selection over Alex Smith at #1.
I agree with Pariah that he can be successful in this league with a team not named the Arizona Cardinals. I think being with the Texans on a team who had no expectations of him and a coach who admired his talents helps him alone, on top of the fact that he avoided public scrutiny for four months, helped him tremendously. I would not like it if he signed with SF. Guarantee the first game he plays against us will be his career game.

Speaking of VD a friend of mine works at Garden City Casino here in the Bay Area. He posted on FB that Davis was in there the other night playing and losing a lot of money on blackjack. said the guy was dropping cash like it was nothing at all.
Said he was a nicer guy than he expected, signed autographs for people etc but apparently not very good at all at Blackjack.

they also said the other day it's not out of the question they bring back Alex Smith depending on how the labor stuff goes. Smith sort of implied he wanted a new start but I guess if there's a very short FA period some think there will be far less movement because it will be much harder to tamper with FA's and hide it if there's a lockout.
If you come out of a lockout and immediately sign a couple of FA's it's going to be a lot harder to deny you were dealing with the player before you were allowed to.

Unlike the 2010 Cardinals QBs whose second completion of the game came midway through the 3rd quarter.
It would be too Cardinal for Matt to go to SF and then beat the Cards twice every year.

SF would do better by keeping Alex Smith.
Failing in AZ and a 3rd stringer in Texas who did not even play does not bode well for Matt. I doubt he will ever be a starting QB in the NFL and will be lucky to sign on as a 3rd string QB this year.
I don't see how that would help that significantly. Care to explain? How much time did that QB coach have to spend with a 3rd stringer during the season? How will time out of public scrutiny translate to better play on the field?

The problem with Leinart was the amount of local and national exposure he got from the media and simply being in a situation where he wasnt going to succeed. He had a HoF QB in front of him the entire time he was in AZ with the addition of a head coach who was not 100% on board with him.
Being 3rd string with Houston gave him time to decompress IMO and be in a much more positive situation. What harm was he going to do to himself? What better way to escape the negative publicity while the team with which he was jettisoned suffered immensely, especially at the QB position. He needed a season with a team and coach (Kubiak) who appreciated his talents and asked little from him.
I have to imagine he had some joy and validation in watching the Cards struggle with one horrendous starter and two rookies incapable of learning on the fly despite the wishes of the coaches. I think most believe that if Leinart was starting instead of DA that we would have been marginally better. Yes he did not have the respect of the locker room but winning heals all wounds. It appeared as if the team turned on DA midway through when they realized he was continuing to regress to being one of the worst starting QB in the league.
With that said, what's to say a team like the 49ers, who is in desperate need for quality QB play, wont take a flier on a guy like Leinart? He wont cost much and will surely give any other QB on the FA market a run for their money for the starting QB role.
And simply stating: a change in scenery is sometimes a good thing for a person. Leinart was not in a position to succeed in AZ. Was it self inflicted? Somewhat. But being the best QB in preseason, the slotted starter and still being cut shows he was not appreciated in AZ

I wish DeWreck Anderson and Max Hall had been on the bench somewhere like Sacramento or Ely Nevada instead of starting games in Arizona. Cards might have actually won more than 5 games and maybe not lost 41-7, 41-10 and 38-7 and finished 31st in passing offense and 32nd in rushing offense.
