They should get a BYE pretty easily and they've only played 1 game in the division, pretty incredible season for them so far. Impressed.

Who have they really played besides Cinncy and Detroit

They beat the Eagles, Bengals, Lions and Redskins on the road and they have 3 more guaranteed wins in the Division.

Because we're going to beat them twice that's why it is only 3!

Why is this on the Arizona Cardinals' board? It belongs on the "More Sports" section.

I would say lions and Bengals the only 2 quality teams. The eagles have talent but don't play up to there expectations. I think 49ers record is overrated. I'm not saying that Cuz I'm a cardinals fan either.

I don't think they're overrated. If we were 7-1 I wouldn't say we were overrated either. They beat Philly, Cinci and the Lions all on the road and crushed Tampa 48-3. Man 48-3, you really gotta put a hatin' on someone to go 48-3. They're 8th in the league in scoring. 8th. And #1 defensively at points allowed, at only 14.8 points per game. 9th in total yards allowed and 1st against the run on D. That isn't overrated, that's just good football. And like GatorHater said, they've only played 1 game against our lousy division.

I don't get the "who did they beat" nonsense. You have to play who's in front of you. And if my memory serves me correctly, there were a few Card fans who got their feathers ruffled when we were looked at in the same light. But be that as it may, you can't help but be impressed when a team that was in such disarray at this point last season(2-6) has been the class of this division this season. I know there are some here who won't admit to that but you have to give credit where credit is due. Not to mention that this is what happens to a team that is coached properly. I mean, they're 7-1 with Alex Smith at QB. Do you realize that he has thrown only 2 INT's? Also, because of them, the NFC West isn't getting laughed at this season.

Nice post NJ, the part about Alex Smith and only 2 INT's this year: he leads the league in fewest INT's. Talk about coaching making a difference. Incredible.

does it matter? Both teams are 6-2 and they beat both of them... ON THE ROAD. And they've taken care of business against everyone else and were one fourth quarter collapse away from being undefeated.

The Niners have earned their record so far and are playing great football. I don't like 'em, but they have my respect and they very much seem for real.

Dittos. The Niners play D & will be in EVERY game. Wouldn't be surprised to see them beat GB & go to the SB. Now, long term, not so sure. Harbaugh is a nut job (albeit, a bright one), but winning keeps everyone on board. I still think he'll eventually burn this team out. We can only hope!!!

The record say they're good, they eyes say they're decent. They are going to have be able to score when they play the upper echelon teams and I just don't see them being able to do that.

do they play anyone good this year?

They are 7-1 with 5 games remaining in the division which to me translates to another 5 wins. I'm being realistic here. This would give them at least 12 wins. They have the Giants, Ravens and Steelers. These will be their real test. If they can beat just one of those three they end up with 13 wins and a probable bye in the playoffs. Like it or not they are real without doing anything in FA and trades.

Coaching is so important in this league or should I say coaching that knows how to get the best out of who they have.

This thread is depressing!

You got that right. Second best team in the league or not, the 9ers are MUCH better than anticipated and we are much worse. If that doesn't make you gag a little, nothing will.

And neither the Giants, Ravens, or Steelers have been world beaters this year. We should have beaten the Giants and Ravens and we were in the Steelers game until late so it's not like we're that far off. We're lost right now. And the 9ers are showing how much coaching makes a difference.

they're a solid ball club. i don't think anyone can really argue that with any level of coherence. they're undefeated on the road (impressive no matter who you play), have beaten two 6-2 teams on the road, are winning games by an average margin of 12 ppg (which is ridiculously impressive no matter who you play) and haven't even started their schedule against the dregs of our division.

I still think they probably lose to the Saints in the second round of the playoffs, but you just can't blow off a team that's winning games by an average margin of 26 to 15, can play great defense and can win on the road.

oh, and as to the "who have they played argument"... can anyone tell me who besides the Saints the Packers have played this year? yeah... no one of consequences. that's the only team with a winning record they've faced.

i hate it, but the Niners are the class of the division and one of the better teams in the NFC right now. this G-men will tell a much bigger story this weekend if they can actually win that second round home game they look like they're destined for.

I'm not trying to take nothing away from the 49ers because wins are hard to come by. But I think they are overrated. Good teams like Ravens and Steelers are going to bring them down to reality. I actually hope they have a good record Cuz that mmeans extension for Smith.

If you look at these two franchises historically its just nature correcting itself.

how are they over-rated? I don't hear anyone really talking much about them. the NFC is still all about the Packers and Saints, even though the Saints really don't look much better than last year. The Niners are kinda flying under the radar. everyone seems to agree they're a solid club, but the jury's out whether they can hang with the big big boys.

and smith ain't getting an extension. Harbaugh already drafted his replacement in the 2nd round and it wouldn't surprise me if Kapernick is starting next year after Smith probably fails to lead the Niners to a playoff W.
