Because anything less than all seven draft picks starting as rookies is a total failure of a draft......keep on pissing in the kool aid man,...but we played that scenario out for thirty plus years in Cardinal town.....

the way this team is being put together and maintained....I would not be surprised if in a season or two our top three draft picks spend a year or two as backups.......

For someone as "super smart" as K9 he sures is devoid of reality when it comes to what defines being successful in the NFL draft. By his measurement NO team in the NFL knows how to draft. And even if he counters this by cherry picking a team that had a good 3-4 year run thats the exception rather then the norm. I would bet if you looked at the 3 years that precded that run there was likely at least 50% more misses then hits. Thats just how it works. He doesnt get it so ignore his Kiem (and Daryl Washington) takes all together.

What a joke this thread is as long as it is and its the dark siders leading the charge. Go cry over a wasted 4th round pick somewhere else. Otherwise just shut up and watch it play out like the rest of us as no one here has a clue either way.

Its okay to just admit that and drop the teeth gnashing. Southpaw calling out Whitfield as a fraud is epic. EVERYONE here is a fraud and about 1/100th level of credibility to a guy like Whitfield (whom know doubt has his own bias).

We are all making educated guesses. And mostly bad ones at that.

You noticed that out first- and second-round picks in the 2013 NFL draft were not starters last year, right?

Kind of lame K9. Cooper was penciled in as a starter until the injury took him down so technically the first round pick was a starter. Technically you are correct however realistically circumstances beyond anyone's control changed it.

Also another part of the reason is that for once the Cards roster was such that there wasn't really any room for the rookies to start especially since they didn't draft an offensive lineman high other than Cooper. One major reason the team went 10-6 with a first year HC.

Of the 2008 draft picks only DRC was a starter and then only for 11 games. That roster was loaded with long term veterans and there was no place for the rookies. Same thing with the 2009 draft.

Having a solid roster of veterans is what allows teams to trade draft picks and players for more future draft picks and to stay at the top of the NFL for extended periods of time.

Final thoughts on Logan Thomas until we can see him in preseason games.

-Logan Thomas isn't low risk/high reward, he is acceptable risk/high reward. We gave up a shot to get a contributor in round 4 of a deep draft to take a guy with a ton of issues to correct. That is risk. The fact that his physical skills are off the charts makes that risk acceptable.

-Logan Thomas will succeed or fail because of his work ethic and football IQ rather than his accuracy. That is why I believe he will pan out. If you believe Thomas is a hard worker and can comprehend the game at a professional level, he will be able to become a 60% passer because he will put himself in the position to do so. If not, then he won't.

-He will be given a year to get his mechanics straight and learn the playbook. After that, he will have to make the most out of whatever chance he gets and he may only get one.

Someone named Okafor or something was a 3rd rounder last year right? Ever get mentioned at all?

Okafor was a 4th round pick. I think that Honey Badger had some pages of threads when we drafted him in the third last year.

Is it true that Palmer only has 1 year left on his contract? So does his age affect that contract? Should the Cards really gamble on a project given that contract status? I remember this forum when Palmer was throwing picks at every opportunity and yet he is the de facto QB until Thomas "matures" (cough cough).

Mettenberger's character may be an easier fix than Thomas's flaws.

Thanks. Can't find Okafor's bajillion page thread. :)

Okafor doesn't play QB. Almost any QB will get 10x as much attention as an OLB. Remember we used to have bajillion page threads about a 5th round pick and of course 2 bajillion page threads about the worst free agent signing in Arizona Cardinal history, Kevin Kolb, and the historic failure of our 1st 1st round QB in almost 20 years.

Thomas won't sniff the field for 2 years at least. Remember that the Cards still have Stanton who is entrenched as the #2 behind Palmer. It has barely been a year since Stanton was slated to be the "starter". At least he was until Palmer was stolen from the Raiders and instantly became the starter.

Stanton is signed through 2016. So the Cardinals are not forced to go with Thomas as their starter if they don't re-sign Palmer after this season.

Super Successful? Big Ben played in a mid major and put up big numbers its not like he won the national championship or played in the SEC.

I'd say putting up big numbers and getting a mid-major to a top ten ranking by his junior year is super successful, but that's just me.

Cam Newton only had 1 amazing year unless you want to throw in some juco numbers.

call me crazy but a guy who's plays one year and in that year puts up ridiculous stats, wins the Heisman and leads his team a national championship is super successful. does it really matter if it was one year considering he left for the NFL (you, know, where he was the number 1 pick, not a fourth round pick) because he was that successful?

, considering in his first year he was the Heisman Trophy winner and the National Champion

Guess who was the most successful college QB of all time and it meant garbage in terms of translating Tim Tebow.

and if Tebow was half the passer any of the above guys were, you'd have a point...or if he was a top ten pick...but, he's not, so you bringing him up is pointless.

Bottom line, even mentioning Thomas' name alongside Luck, Big Ben and Newton is completely pointless. He's a big athletic guy who plays QB and was INCREDIBLY mediocre (at best) in college. How people keep bringing up two of the best collegiate players who also were sure-fire number 1 picks in the last decade and another great college QB in Big Ben as some kind of comparison to Thomas is beyond me.
Your point has no merit.

His college numbers are remarkably similar to Brett Favre. Favre was much more highly regarded coming out of college though. Maybe its just a different era.

My point was about the QB coach and how all these guys he coached fit the same frame. I never said LT was on any of their levels. If you can find it I'd love to see it.

The point is the position, the almighty QB that can set a franchise back if loyalties are placed on a player long after their benefits are clear. I think one backs themselves up at such an important position and drafts another one again in a earlier round in a upcoming draft if the right guy comes along. If one pans out and the other still gives an impression of being 'the guy'... you go Andy Reid and trade him and still benefit :)

Very well put.

He needs to really put in the work and from all I have read that shouldn't be a problem. Will it translate? No one knows so it's something to look forward to.

Tebow put up some amazing passing stats in college. The point was simply that college stats are not the end all be all for determining NFL success. Some guys are amazing in college and terrible in the pros and some guys are mediocre to bad in college and very good in the pros. Whether LT will fall into that latter category or not is yet to be seen, but for me personally I am optimistic that he will.

Thomas has a huge upside and runs really well but I would rather the Cards take a chance on him with our sixth rounder. This whole draft screams of taking players a round too early. We will see just how good Tom Moore and the Arian nation are at coaching QBs. If they can teach Logan Thomas how to be a great QB and not just an athlete then they are the best.
