So I went back to the Diallo signing thread and I'm sorry but it doesn't really read like we just signed a 15th man. And I'm not even saying that anyone is wrong with their comments here, I'm just trying to show why I thought we were getting someone around the level of Holmes. (and yes, some of these, offered here out of context, really help make my point
)
*Better than Christian Wood.
*Efficient scorer, good rebounder, blocks some shots. Fills the bill.
*I'd rather see him get minutes than Kaminsky
*I like to think of Diallo as the Chriss we would still want to have on the Suns roster (from Dave King)
*Diallo's wingspan is much better than Clarke's. He's longer and knows the NBA
*very limited offensively. Reminds me of Holmes
*If the Pelicans didn't luck out and get the first pick this year. Diallo would have never hit the market. This looks like a nice signing.
*He's a pretty good rebounder, efficient, and has shown improvement every year.
*The stats don't make him appear as raw. He shoots a good percentage everywhere except for 3pt range, plays good defense.
Statistically I don't really see any weaknesses, other than he has not got a lot of playing time.
*He's not an end-of-the-bench journeyman at this point. He's a project who is almost ready to take the next step
*In Diallo the Suns have a depth power forward that can play if the need arises in addition to being a development player.
*Both Kaminsky and Diallo can fill in at center as well.
*In my opinion, he brings the sort of things I thought we needed from Clarke. Big fan of this signing.
*but this kid will give us what we need this year as an athletic defender and not force all of that on Ayton
*Looks like a more athletic/raw version of Holmes. Great pickup
*Of all the guys left on the market, this was the guy I wanted the Suns to sign
*I actually like Cheick more than Kaminsky or Bender or possibly Baynes.
*Or even starting.
*And since Kaminsky is probably a worse defender than Saric, we might see Cheick actually start.
*Gambo is reporting that the Pelicans had decided they wanted to keep Diallo over Randle and that is why they let Randle walk
