This is spin. As Chris and I have been championing since the end of the season, they NEEDED to sign him on Day 1.

People were complaining that Kyler isn't worth 40M. At the going rate, by the time he actually does sign an extension, it will be closer to 50 instead of 40. Keim is mis-managing the player, and the salary cap. You don't think 10M more would be helpful every year going forward to sign another free agent? I sure as hell do.
Well, the fact of the matter is, if Kyler keeps fading in the back half of the season, can't win playoff games, and isn't dedicated to his craft, he's not worth $30 million, much less $40 million.

The more relevant part of this is that the agent has pulled his prior offer to the Cardinals off of the table in light of the new contracts weeks ago.

Keim is such a goof

If you had any question about his ability the only thing to do was to trade him immediately.

Standing pat has just guaranteed a higher contract or a lower return.

Any starting QB will get that much; you don't have to be a superstar. Whether you want Kyler as your starting QB is another matter.

What's day 1?

The earliest a rookie extension was done recently was Wentz in June. Mahomes was July. Allen August. Watson September.

We're all those GMs wrong to not get a deal done early before the market reset?

The FO has no obligation to rush a deal through because Kyler demands it or because his agent wants a new summer house.

No QB has ever demanded a deal like this before. Its Kyler's camp in the wrong.

Right. He probably lowballed him into a 30-35M range and it is no wonder Kyler and his agent pulled.

Day 1 of free agency. Either trade him at his highest possible value, or pay him before the market increases his value.

Come on man. No rookie QB has ever been extended that soon.

Its fantasy land round here.
It is deciding on what to do with him, BEFORE all of the offseason drama happened. That is part of it.

Unfortunately, teams don't have the luxury to just bail on 1st overall QB picks after year three, especially when it's only been three years since bailing on a top 10 drafted QB and getting... Andy Isabella in return.

And this is the absolute fact. Murray is now getting the franchise tag money on his 5th year option due to him getting to multiple pro bowls.

With the new contracts that 5th year option is now $44,955,466.

So waiting on this just in the 5th year option took this up 9 million dollars. You could have gotten Murray for about 38 million a month ago. That is why they pulled the contract offer off.

A franchise tag will be AT MINIMUM that plus another 20%. At minimum because any other new contract will just raise this.

So after next year the MINIMUM Murray makes on two years is 99 Million dollars.

Start of the league new year was Day 1.

Kyler's camp has laughably won this. He is going to be about 20% more money by the Cardinals refusing the initial contract offer.

The FO know what they are doing with him. They want him to stay and be the QBOTF. I have no doubt at all about that.

He has has 2 years remaining under contract and the FO have no obligation to extend him yet whether Kyler wants it or not.

For people that don't understand the collective bargaining agreement, here is the language

  • Multiple Pro Bowls: Players who are named to two or three Pro Bowls on the original ballot (not as an alternate) will be eligible for a fifth year base salary equal to the franchise tender at their position.
Upon being exercised, the fifth year option is fully guaranteed, and any base salary in the player's fourth year that was not fully guaranteed will become so.

So that is 45 million fully guaranteed after next year. All of it eating into the cap at once.

Murray was an alternate last year. He was only original ballet this year.

Then again, they are shooting themselves in the foot by not handling the contract before the price has gone up. Which it already has.

Then you could say the same about Allen, Mahomes, Wentz and Watson.

The deal will be the deal. Nothing has been reset. Nothing has changed.
Sure you could have. However, this organization needs to be MORE proactive than others, because they still don't know how to win.

No he wasnt.

It was Rodgers, Russell Wilson and Kyler who made the Pro Bowl at QB in 2020. There was no "Pro Bowl game" so there were no alternates.
Then he gets the transition tag at 42.5 million. Lower said math by 3 million
No you were correct.
