Okur is believed to be seeking a six-year, $65 million deal. The 25-year-old Turk made $1.1 million playing for the NBA-champion Pistons this past season, and ESPN.com reported Friday night that Detroit has offered him a 6-year, $40 million contract to stay.

Please let our ship sail around that iceberg.

Others now seemingly out of focus for Utah: Golden State center Erick Dampier, who supposedly is seeking a max deal; Boston center Mark Blount, who seems likelier to sign with an Eastern Conference club

Dampier for the max? :biglaugh:

And Blount has so little confidence in himself after that fluke season that he wants to stay in the East?

Lets just settle for Foyle, Ostertag or Thomas please.

Okur won't get 6/65.. not from anybody. Well.. one exception, Utah cause they have trouble luring FA's and loads of cap room... if it is just about the money to Okur, then he could go there. But that amount is excessive, absolutely excessive.

Another down side of him and other RFA's, is that the other team has like 15 days to match it. That leaves a team in limbo regarding any other FA's while they are waiting for an answer from the original team.

And they usually wait close to the 15 days. However, since Detroit can only offer the MLE, they really can't match it.

But, it does kind of takes you out of the race for anyone else.

I just wanna forget about him, go after Dice. See what you got left after that. We get him, then we can use the rest on best player available, if we decide to use it at all. Dice and Nash and some cap space left, Bulls #1 next year and it's a good offseason.

I agree 100%

No Okur, no MAX for Dampier.

Thomas, Foyle, Ostertag all are an improvment and wont be WAY overpaid...

and frankly I'm not that excited about overpaying for those three players. I get the feeling the Phoenix Suns aren't either.

I don't care what they pay as long as they put a good team on the floor.

I know $ are important but I find it interesting how we as fans have become so hung up on the money. We love a good player if he's a bargain, we hate him if he's overpaid.

Shawn Marion is a really good player he does amazing things on the court for a SF and all we can do is talk about how he's overpaid.

The Suns had to overpay Nash to get him. If they'd ofered him what he's worth he'd still be a Maverick. The Suns are gonna have to pay whoever they get at center too much money or they'll be stuck with a center rotation of Voskuhl and Vroman?

take a look at the New York Knicks' situation and then tell me that a team should just spend freely even if they are overpaying. This is not a championship contender trying to add that final piece to put them over the top. They also already have several players who would be considered overpaid which should make them more leery of adding more overpaid players.

Like it or not it's part of the NBA. Salaries do make a difference.

Joe Mama,

What would you consider an overpayment for Foyle or Etan Thomas?

My feeling is that, barring a trade, they probably can't improve the team more with their cap space other than by trying to add a player at that level.

I cannot believe Okur is that good. Granted I have not seen him play that much. But is was on a good and agressive team. Lets stick with Dice and get a lower priced center. I keep thinking Luc Longley when it comes to Okur
