Several posters have speculated in the past that having a black coach like Green would make it easier to attract top black Free Agents to the team. Maybe that is true - the top black Free Agents were more likely to sign, raising the overall talent level - and pushing out less talented players, both black and white.

Dang, I guess we won't take Eli then, since he's white.

Sounds like the NFL Player Who Must Not Be Named is trying to get a little whine from some sour grapes.

As I mentioned before that stuff comes up all the time here in the Bay Area, I have literally heard local reporters ask him questions like "do you feel the NFL might be a bit too tough for you" or "do you get along well with your teammates you seem to have a different mindset than other NFL players."

It gets to be funny, the guy plays in SF one of these days one of the reporters will just blurt out "are you gay" and be done with it.

I have no idea if he is or isn't, but I know it's a pretty common assumption and wouldn't shock me at all.

Maybe Garcia should play baseball.

That way he could be a switch hitter!

As long as we are going there

...I would not read too much into Green's wife selection since, from what I can gather most NFL players...well, let's just say on Thanksgiving most of them prefer the white meat.;)..although it's much funnier when you see one of them walking around with something off the set of "Cops".

Scott Player/both Kickers are white, but I don't foresee Denny bringing back Donald Igwebike anytime soon.

There really is nothing of merit to that Denny Green/racist statement unless they pass up Manning/Ben for Roy Williams/Larry Fitzgerald - and even then you could argue that they just liked Josh (white) plus another WR better. If his plan is to bring in a 3rd big time WR, but play Jeff "Leon" Blake.....well then I guess Bickley might have to pounce on this story.

On the other hand, politics in SF is totally unique. I lived there for five months and had a chance to experience it up close. I will never forget the day the Palestinian/Arabic organization had a parade down Market Street and had some of the most hateful, awful things to say about Jews, Israel and the US. They were just looking for a fight in the violent way in which they were acting, but aside from a few astounded tourists, everyone just went about their business and nothing got out of hand.

I guess I think they probably already assume he is gay, so if he confirmed it they wouldn't care. Could be wrong but I just don't think the players have never made the same assumptions we have about Jeff.

SF is nuts, I live in San Jose and avoid SF like the plague because of traffic, lack of parking etc. We're talking about a city that essentially shuts down huge sections of major districts once a month for something called "critical mass" which is essentially a huge group of bike riders who intentionally snarl traffic and shut down large sections of downtown to make a statement about the need for better bike access in the city. They do this every month.

If you did that in San Jose people would be slamming their SUV's into you on purpose, in San Francisco people complain about it, but they tolerate it for the same reason as your example, there are so many "groups" in San Francisco they wind up having to tolerate stuff like that

I would think that it's more along the lines of - "He who denied it, supplied it."

This past week, my wife was doing some modeling work at the Consumer Electronics Show. On Wednesday night, Maxim magazine had an event and she was invited to attend. Several current and former NFL players were there including Jeff Garcia, Napolean McCallum and a player that used to play for the Vikings who will go unnamed. Anyway, Ro was talking to the former Vikings player about Denny Green coming to coach the Cardinals. She asked him what he thought about Green. The player's comment went something like this, "Well put it this way. When I got there, we had seventeen white guys on the team. When I left, we had four. I feel that Denny purposely got rid of the white players over time".

Now keep in mind that neither Ro nor I share this player's opinion. I'm just reporting what she was told.

And another interesting thing happened at the event too. Evidently Jeff Garcia was a judge in the Maxim magazine national model search. He was trashed beyond repair and was so completely out of control with some of the female contestants, that they had to end the event early. I told Ro that I always thought Garcia was gay just from his mannerisms and such, and so imagining him getting lewd and rude with the girls didn't track for me. Her comment, "Methinks he doth protest too much".

It's such a shame that stuff like this has to be brought up. What was the point of either issue. Racial and homophobia rumors. I don't think the " don't shoot me , I am just the messenger" line is a get out of jail free card here. Neither individual is here to defend or ignore or rebut or validate what was just said. . This is sad.

P.S. If 12 % of the total population is gay, do you think the NFL is different? Why should it bother you if his gender preference is different than yours. I have been to many South Florida charity events with very recognizable celebrity athletes in attendance. Some were gentleman and some were out of control maniacs. So what you describe is standard. That is life.

Wally,
Dude, shut up. You missed like THE WHOLE POINT of the entire story.

First of all, these are interesting anecdotes that genuinely occurred. If you don't want to participate in the conversation then don't. You mean to tell me you've never come home from a party or some other event and told someone about something that happened when the person you are discussing wasn't there? Man I can't stand holier-than-thou crap like this.

Secondly, when did I say anything about his sexual preference? In fact, I specifically said that if he's gay, it doesn't matter. It's just a commentary on the NFL and society as a whole if he feels it is necessary to pretend he is a debaucherous heterosexual when in fact he's not.

But hey, thanks for stepping in and ignoring the compelling parts of the conversation to spew your soapbox garbage. Appreciate that. :(

So why don't you take the moment and explain how your comments weren't homophobic and racist. It didn't work the first time.

So should those of us who are not good christians stop posting? I'm neither a good christian nor a bad one, didn't realize that had any bearing on being a Cardinal fan.

I find it ironic to complain about racism and bigotry and then trot out the religious card.

You implied that Jons(and my) comments were unfair because Denny and Jeff Garcia aren't here to defend themselves, I don't understand how that doesn't contradict your posts on Blake and Stoops yesterday. You made personal attacks on both guys with no support for either, and near as I can tell neither of them are here to defend themselves.

In my mind your posts about Stoops and Blake yesterday were far more denigrating than anything Jon or myself posted in this thread.

I didn't bring out the religious card. Pariah did. Follow the thread. My comments on Blake and Stoops have to do with football performance and their professional behavior. They are fair game for those discussions. For posters to deal with someones gender preference or racial biases is on a toatlly different level. That is out of bounds, or should at least be, when based strictly on rumor and innuendo. In fact it is no one elses business unless that individual is personally effected. Homophobes and racists expose themselves and can behave any way they care to. This whole thread is based on those issues. Not any sidebar distractions. I stand on my belief.

I never said anything about good christians not being able to post. I am a freaking agnostic atheist. Maybe if you go to the beginning of the post and reread the vitriolic dialogue, you will see where your rumor spreading took place.

Agnostic: One who believes the existance of god is impossible to prove

Atheist: One who denies the existance of god

So which is it?

Are you a black white man too?
