I really really like the Suns. If they won the title I would weep with joy.

But a Suns player getting suspended doesn't really measure up against my homeland descending into chaos, hatred and totalitarianism.

Ah, now you've done it, Phraz. You said the magic word, homeland.

The opening song of a singing group I love, Celtic Woman -- Homeland.

Their Phoenix concert was cancelled earlier in the year due to COVID-19. So I am holding my
ticket. Another half a year to go.

'Luv this group!

For someone who complains about people getting "personal" with them all the time, you sure do reveal a ton of unsolicited personal information here. Take your ramblings about politics and musical groups to the appropriate forums.

I know the two of you have clashed many times but that's a bit harsh IMO. This would be a very dry and boring board if we were all restricted like this. Maybe some of us go a bit too far but if so, I suspect I'd top that list.

I second all of the above.

I can understand that and would agree in the case of every other poster here but BC is the one who immediately cries someone is getting personal with him whenever there is the slightest disagreement. Perhaps if he didn't post here like it was his personal journal then he wouldn't need to fear others are getting personal with him. He often makes posts like the one I quoted that derail a thread entirely rather than add some flavor or a personal touch to something that has to do with the Suns or NBA basketball.

In regards to politics specifically, I think those discussions should stick to their specific forums because it never seems to end well. I know it doesn't end well there either but at least those of us who don't wish to compare Ayton's suspension to the Trump admin's effects on the country don't see it and aren't told we're personally attacking him for asking him to take it to the appropriate forum.

I don't mind talking politics when they're directly related to the sport I'm following or discussing, like with how the players boycotted last week, but I don't want to be thinking of politics while discussing sports as a break from the political overload you get all over social media and virtually every station on TV. There's a time and a place, is what I'm saying.

@BC867 @Hoop Head - Agreed. Politics needs to be kept to the P&R forum.

it is so sad and says so much about our racist country that someone posting that black lives matter as much as everyone else’s is somehow deemed “political”.

@Linderbee

I'm hoping the avatar being used by Hoop Head will be considered a social justice message rather than a political avatar much like the players wear in the NBA.

agreed. Making a statement that Black people deserve the same equal rights and treatment to everyone else in the country isn’t political unless you make it such. if you’re making that simple statement political, the problem is with the person who doesn’t believe Black Lives Matter.

@Linderbee banning a plea for equality only gives power to those who deny it.

Assimilation is still going on in this country whether we want to believe it or not. I encourage any of you to take an AIS (American Indian Studies) class. If you think the stats are bad for black people, well they're even worse for Native Americans.

Doc makes a great point. I hate to talk about this here because the NBA is my escape from everything else.

It says "Black Lives Matter" on the court for each NBA game that has been played since the season started back up over a month ago. Players can also elect to place that phrase on their jerseys. With that phrase being given such prominent placement by a major sports league, I would think it would be fine to share it as an avatar on a sports board.

I also don't see it as a political statement either, I view it as more of a cultural one. I think it has been politicized by some and that's a shame because making it political is the quickest way to turn Americans against each other nowadays.

I think it is cool with that additional banner on it!

Okay... then who’s the decider who believes the statement that black lives matter the same as others is political?

I mean, if I change my avatar to something that says Black People Deserve Equality, is that going to be struck down?

Shaggy, and I don't know.

@Shaggy this decision is repugnant. How is asking for equality political?

The only people making that statement political is those who wish to deny equality to others. And by banning that plea, you are enabling them to do so.

I know no one is surprised, but I agree with this 100%.

black lives matter is a social, not political plea.

The owner of the board

and as I stated in my follow up, the owner of the board is then shutting down the idea that black people deserve equality.

that's an absolutely atrocious stance to take.

This was my position... it's a social issue. I'm disappointed it's viewed any other way.

It's his site and he can do what he wants. Any further debate about this will be deleted. Take it up with him in PM.

so, now we’re not even allowed to talk about black lives being equal? I @Shaggy in this thread. Why not have an actual discussion about this out in the open?

This has been considered to be a political topic and was reported by someone as politics. We don't have politics in our sports board. You can discuss it in P&R as normal

I agree that this discussion should be public. Cheese and I agree on almost nothing but I support everything he's said here on this topic.

I'm in the hospital right now but will be home by monday, hopefully. I hope we can discuss this more until then, otherwise I'm letting everyone know that it will be very difficult for me to change the avatar until then. I'd rather someone else didn't change it in the meantime.
