Word on twitter today, Metcalf, is that the Vikings are considering using the f-tag on Keenum. Either to keep him or get something in return via a trade. This may be their way of blocking the Shurmur/Keenum package deal.
That's a massive risk for the Vikings, and no one would trade for Keenum with that high of a salary.

They can f-tag him and then trade him for a 3rd round pick to team that has agreed with Keenum's agent to sign him at a mutually acceptable contract (not $20+M a year). That's why they would do it. They want something in return.

3rd rounder seems high. Really think they would get that? I guess this game later today will answer these type of questions.

this is why I wanted the Vikes to do well...it forces them to move on Keenum, leaving Teddy B free to go elsewhere...

Teddy will come cheaper and has more potential than Keenum

If they sign Bridgewater and they ll draft an offensive lineman or some other position instead qb, Falk could be a target in round 2?

Munchak---his OL did an excellent job today versus one of the elite front 7s in the NFL. Big Ben held the ball too long on the fumble. It's not Munchak's fault that on both 4th and inches the OC and/or HC inexplicably don't run a QB sneak with a Pro Bowl C and a 6-5 235 pound QB. Munch's RT gets injured in the first half and his replacement was solid.

Shurmur---up until the sack on the time consuming opening drive of the 3rd quarter, everything was Shurmur's and Keenum's way. Then the play calling got a little tentative, especially after Keenum threw up the bad interception. But, when the Saints got the lead at 21-20, Shurur and Keenum put together a very good drive that led to Horbath's go-ahead FG.

What a miracle finish. Credit Mike Zimmer for using his timeouts with 35 seconds left. Some coaches would have allowed the clock to go down to 3 seconds and pin the game ion the last FG. Then, credit Stephon Diggs for having the presence of mind to not step out of bounds to try to stop the clock, which one would imagine he was coached to do. Marcus Williams clearly tried to avoid contact and PI call, but obviously didn't have the experience to play it safe. Maybe he assumed Diggs would just run out of bounds to stop the clock?

Shurmur is just as Keenum described him---very cool, calm and collected. He has his work cut out for him in Philly versus their defense, led by another Cardinals' HC candidate Jim Schwartz. On the other side of the ball, if Doug Peterson and John DeFilippo can coach up Nick Foles again this week in taking on Mike Zimmer's outstanding defense, then it's quite possible that JDF will re-emerge as a HC candidate.

BTW---very happy for Calais Campbell. He's one game away from the Super Bowl again.

And---could it be that (little used) WR Michael Floyd's team will be in the Super Bowl...again? #sonotfairtoLarry

I do not think Diggs had a presence of mind moment, just an ego moment of wanting to score for himself and then throw his helmet off lol

it was the right play though. there was nobody who could have taken him down..
when he caught it I was yelling ,"get out of bounds".. then the camera shifted and I saw open field and switched to , "No, run man RUN"..

Not directed at you Mitch.

Bahahahahaha!! Franchise Case Keenum?

Anyone who would franchise Keenum or pay him close to 20m is insane.

Tough situation for them. They have three QB's and all three are FA's next month.

There are still questions in regards to TeddyB... and we all know the injury list for Sam Bradford...
then they have Case Keenum who just lead them to the NFC Championship game.

Strictly from a PR stand point they have to keep Keenum... they tag him so they have exclusive negotiation rights. Not with the intent on paying him the ...what is it..$29mil?... but with the intent of signing him long term.. they find a deal they can both live with.... five years $75mil with $40mil guaranteed,...or something like that...
Keenums option then is to either take the guaranteed tag money, or sign the deal which comes with more guaranteed money...keeping in mind an injury or calamatous fall to earth during the tag year pretty much ruins his chances of getting a long term deal worth anything.

Then what if they actually win the Super Bowl?? Keenum showing he can win under pressure makes him more valuable.
Tagging Keenum is the Vikes best option at this point even if it sounds crazy.

No one is going to pay him $20M. The Vikings would use the tag to trade him in hopes of getting a 3rd or 4th rounder from a team that would then sign Keenum at a salary in the $12-14M range. The Vikings would only tag him to try to get something for him. Of course if he keeps winning and the Vikings win the Super Bowl and his legend in Minnesota keeps growing, then the Vikings might feel inclined to to try to sign him to a reasonable deal themselves.

Interesting...did everyone hear that Mike Zimmer in the pre-game said Keenum has been "playing with a horseshoe" and that Zimmer activated Sam Bradford to play if the team got behind and needed a stronger thrower. Good thing Zimmer stayed with Keenum when they got behind, huh?

I think that with Pat Shurmur moving on, the Vikings will move on from Keenum. Mike Zimmer wants a QB with a stronger arm. And Keenum might not be as good without Shurmur.

If they franchise him, wouldnt he sign it immediately at ~29m and the Vikes would have to pay him?

Makes me sick that we could have traded for Jimmy G but we are talking about Case freekin Keenum instead.

Get Jimmy G out of your head. He was NEVER being traded to AZ.

That guy made a miracle happen. I think I give him a break.

Diggs did not make a miracle happen, miracles have a divine source and when he took his helmet off I did not see a halo... but they needed one with Keenum's Max Hall/Colt McCoy arm lol

Why would Keenum sign for 12 to 14 million a year when he is guaranteed twice that for one year at F tag value? No one is going to trade for him at that rate with no guarantee that he'll sign for less (which he would be stupid to do). Even if he fails next year he still got more than he would have signing for, as you said, 12 to 14.

its all about the guarantees...Ftag is guaranteed about 29mil... but a five or six year contract at around 75mil may have 45-50mil guaranteed... if he gets hurt in that tag year that could be all the money he ever gets

45-50 million for a one year wonder who is losing his player caller is blasphemy. 3 year 45 million with 30 million guarantee is generous.
