And yet it’s been a consistent Top 10 and often a Top 5 defense with Bettcher at the helm. And sorry Mitch, the biggest reasons as to why we have only 1 post season W during the BASK era was our offense, specifically injuries to our offense... Our defense was always good enough to get us more wins in the playoffs had we been able to field a legit offense.
The backbreaker in that game was PP's muffed punt. Down 17-7 and about to get the ball back with great field position. We score anything there it's a 7 or 3 point ballgame. Instead, the defense is back on the field and they score to make it 24-7. After that it was basically over. Palmer throwing the INT in the endzone at the end of the half was just icing on the cake.

45-50 million for a one year wonder who is losing his player caller is blasphemy. 3 year 45 million with 30 million guarantee is generous.

I agree... but didnt that kid from asu get like 18mil a year from houston after only one decent year in denver?
sad as it is, in todays NFL, if a guy is a "starter"... it looks like $15mil per is a bare minimum... the average guy gets $20mil per and the good ones get $25mil.. based on the last couple of young "stars"...we are really close to seeing $30mil being the standard

They will play Bridgewater/Bradford against Keenum to get him to sign that deal. PFT reported their 4th QB Kyle Sloter is a QB they are high on. It will end up with a franchise tag for Keenum

its all about the guarantees...Ftag is guaranteed about 29mil... but a five or six year contract at around 75mil may have 45-50mil guaranteed... if he gets hurt in that tag year that could be all the money he ever gets

29 mil is guaranteed for the F-tag. In your scenario 5 or six year with 45-50 mil the only real guarantee is the signing bonus and his first year salary. I doubt that is going to be 29 mil (using your numbers). I still don't see him signing for 12 to 14 million when the f-tag has been applied. This is exactly why Kurt Cousins has not been signed long term, they want him to take a 18 mil a year contract over 4 or 5 years and he was not going for it. He would rather take F-tag money.

it was the right play though. there was nobody who could have taken him down..
when he caught it I was yelling ,"get out of bounds".. then the camera shifted and I saw open field and switched to , "No, run man RUN"..
I still think the move to stay inbounds follows a mid-late. season trend which became part of many receivers' skill-sets. No doubt, DC's will adjust to this by coaching different sideline-coverage techniques.

Looks like Brian Flores will stay in New England and ascend to D C if Patricia takes Lions job.

The defense came undone in the NFC Championship game in 2015 and has not been the same since. A top experienced DC could have changed all of that. Over the past 2 years, put any pressure on this defense in meaningful games and it wilts. It's poorly designed and undisciplined.

I seem to recall, we beat wide-nine defences in the past.

Bettcher has proven he's just average. In the past 3 years, the defense has regressed, despite having one of the best pass rushers and best CB's in the game. Bettcher hasn't gotten any HC interviews, aside from one in AZ, and hardly any interest around the league as a DC...that should tell you all you need to know.

He was, according to reports, the favourite to take over in CHI, if Fangio left.

Actually, MJ said yesterday that he was told by a Bears' insider that Bettcher was 4th on the Bears' list. They had 3 other DC candidates ahead of him.

He showed no signs as a NFL prospect his previous 3 seasons either.
Well he has been invited to the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine. So we will see.

Mike Leach reveals why he was mum on QB Luke Falk's injury
NCAAF
January 3, 2018 4:27pm EST January 3, 2018 4:27pm EST American Football, Mike Leach, NCAA Division I FBS, Washington State, English Mike Leach is never one to talk about injuries, but he has a pretty sound explanation as to why he didn't reveal Luke Falk's injury.

The storyline after Washington State's blowout loss to Michigan State in the Holiday Bowl was quarterback Luke Falk's absence and the fact coach Mike Leach was mum on the injury.

In an interview with USA Today Sports, in typical Leach fashion, the Washington State coach explained the real reason behind the "injury secrecy."

“I don’t want to empower poor and inept and lazy journalists with story material,” Leach said. “They just want to talk about scores and injuries. What comes out of these stories is, 'So and so is injured. So his team has all these excuses to lose, because the whole thing is riding on X-number of injured players. So therefore they can’t win.’"

It wasn't publicly known until after the season that Falk was playing with a broken bone in his non-throwing wrist, and had been since WSU's second game. It was Leach's intention to keep those details a secret. Falk didn't play in the bowl game because his wrist had not healed from a recent surgery. "

“I don’t want that mentality floating around our team in any way shape, form or fashion,” Leach said. “Then, the other thing is, whatever weaknesses or vulnerabilities that we have as a team, I can’t possibly fathom why I would have any interest in revealing that to my opponent.”

While the secrecy is part of his game plan, there was also a lot of buzz after the Holiday Bowl game of a video that went viral of Leach simply cooling off his coffee while Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio was speaking during the press conference. Why that garnered so much attention was one of Leach's biggest questions.
