Watching TNT, and David Aldridge "claims" that the Suns are looking to shop James Jones around, as they'd like to extend Diaw and Barbosa.

I will be extremely dissapointed if the Suns trade JR. He's definitely one of my favorite players, and is rapidly improving this season.

Yeah I heard that. I was like WTF? He's young and cheap. I don't buy this one bit.

It didn't sound like he had any real inside information. It was speculation.

Exactly. And if the suns are really looking to trim some salary, he really is the only person that would fit unless it was a major deal.

I really don't think it will happen though. They can extend both players, then have another year before their contracts kick in to figure out salary. At that point I would assume they would look more at moving Thomas.

Man, I was actaully happy about that report. The main thing I got from it was that they are very intent on not letting diaw and barbosa go anywhere.

I'm confused.

If they're looking to extend Diaw and Barbosa, and are looking for money to do it, how is Jones's reasonably paltry ass salary going to cause the Suns from proceding on?

DA is usually on with his "rumors" but I'm truly hoping this one is a pile of crap.

They should lock all three of them up.

I don't see JJ going anywhere. His shooting has been key this year and he is one of the cheapest guys on the team.

My thoughts exactly when I heard that  What is his salary again? I thought is was about 2 million - is that really enough to extend these players?

They have Jones under contract for the next four years, at roughly 2.6 million dollars per, or 11 million overall.

It's not a hindering contract by ANY means.

While I agree, 2.5 million is still 2.5 million. And if we become a tax payer that is going to be 5 million.

As it stands, the Suns are going to be at about 60 million next season. That is before they sign their draft picks and possibly resigning House.

To be honest, I expect House to be gone (unless he takes a major discount) - and possibly 1 of our picks to be moved....or both combined for a higher pick.

Then I would assume we keep Jones, extend both Boris and Leandro. Then after next season we trade Thomas and his expiring contract right before their extensions kick in.

You know the Suns will want to start a front court of Marion/Diaw/Amare anyways, and hopefully a couple of the 4 first rounders we have in the next 2 drafts would shore up the front line.

How the hell he's still on the books is beyond me.

So, this season the Suns loop the contracts of Grant, Eisley, Jackson, Burke, Davis, Ford and Reiner off the books.

How much do you suppose House will command on the market? In my opinion, he might realize the grass isn't greener on the other side and sign a reasonably fair deal, which would allow them to keep Jones, and re-sign Barbosa and Diaw. I'm also wondering what those two feel they're worth on the market.

As for the stars, it's used to indicate those numbers are the qualifiying offer numbers.

Aldridge also mentioned that James Jones was being mentioned in a swap for Jared Jefferies.

Darn it! Someone beat me to that joke.

I know that most of this board loves House, but if the Suns are thinking about moving Jones partly because it will make it easier to keep House, I think that's just stupid beyond belief. I would much rather have Jones than House under any circumstances, and twice on Sundays, as the saying goes.

Why would the Suns break up their team chemistry and trade one of their best reserve players?

I normally trust Aldridge, but this just doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense to me.

I find claims the Suns are shopping a player other than Jackson to be "odd". The Suns are awfully good at keeping their plans secret. There was absolutely no warning prior to the Marbury trade to give an example.

I think it is possible that other teams have inquired about Jones. Jones is showing enough talent that teams with poor outside shooting might think he could become a starter - but obviously not on the Suns. However, anyone who thinks the Suns would dump him just for cap space is being dilusional.

I don't think they should trade Jones.

He is a perfect player to space the floor once Amare is back.

Moving Jones won't clear up much cap space anyway.

Sounds more like The Suns were trying to trade Jackson and Jones was asked about. If the Suns didn't immediately say NO then DA can say they were entertaining the idea.

Combined they would be enough for a $5 million plus player, but that would mean more salaries.

The Suns have bought him out and the numbers still count against the cap 'til the end of the contract, in case you're wondering.

And the whole idea of trading James Jones doesn't make much sense for me, excepted if he's packaged with some useless/disgruntled players and/or picks for another guy. But I can't see how that will help to re-sign Diaw and Barbosa, though

Not quite. He doesn't count for the luxury tax but does count when it comes to cap space for signing free agents - which is irrelevant for the Suns.
