Adam Dunn hit his 2nd homer today but Washington lost and still have not won a game this season. I remember Adam said he was excited to be on the Diamondbacks because they were in the hunt for a playoff spot and he would sign for less with a team that had a chance to win it all. Did the Diamondbacks ever consider signing him or did they just want the draft picks?

They don't get any draft picks because they didn't offer him arbitration

The Diamondbacks offered Dunn a two year deal around $20M, which he apparently rejected really quickly. Naturally, he winds up signing a two year deal with Washington for... $20M. Dunn said in the Republic that he was shocked that the Diamondbacks didn't offer arbitration (and won't get the draft picks as mentioned above) because he said that he told management that would not accept it. Of course, a pro athlete's word these days is worth about as much as GM stock, and the Diamondbacks were scared that he would accept it considering that they would have had to pay up something around $18M for just one year.

Wonderful. So they traded 3 guys for Dunn and then let him go for nothing. I am so sick of the front office. I don't know why many people on this board like Josh Byrnes? Just because he worked with Theo Epstein doesn't mean he will succeed. So far I have not been overly impressed. Let's see if he has the guts to fire Melvin, or at least fire Schu.

They're paying $30 million to a journeyman outfielder for three years. At least they would of gotten production out of Dunn. All they get out of Byrnes is a guy who likes to pop up and do somersaults after throwing the ball.

Yes, we all know that Byrnes isn't worth $30M, but there's nothing the front office can do about that now. It isn't like they chose Byrnes over Dunn or Hudson, as even with Byrnes on the books they handed out very good offers to both. The Diamondbacks can't force guys to sign contracts, after all.

True, they chose Byrnes over Quentin, which is worse.

I remember reading that they didnt offer arbitration because they were afraid he would accept it, which would screw them out of the picks. I dont get why it seems like the organization wants to keep getting younger. :bang:

Maybe, maybe not. As big of a fan of his as I was (I had the Quentin #7 avatar two seasons ago, guess I should take some blame for him being cursed that year), nobody will probably ever know for sure whether or not the Diamondbacks could have had both Quentin and Haren.

Not offering Dunn arbitration was a financial decision...though, I have to wonder how good of a business practice it is to piss off your fan base...

Hope Dunn has fun winning 30 or so games in washington lmao..... would have liked the dbacks to keep dunn we have really no hr threat this year at all....Upton is our best future at being a power hitter but he has to had a lot of strength

My guess is that it is a slightly better business practice than paying Adam Dunn $18MM for a years worth of service.

Adam Dunn's presence at in the heart of our batting order last season helped the rest of the D'backs batting order.

Not as dynamically as the Dodgers adding Manny Ramirez. But, at least, to some degree.

Now the Dodgers have it all . . . and we have none.

That's not good business practice.

Their farm system is pretty depleted with a lot of guys now in the bigs or traded (CarGo, Quentin, etc), the picks would've been nice to have. We could've maybe even packaged some of the young guys we got w/ Byrnes in oder to jettison his bad contract, though we'll never really know.

Have you ever seen this guy?

Upton will likely grow into a much better all around player, but Reynolds can hit the ball as far as anyone ever has when he connects with one. He went the other way over Chase Fields quite large center field wall today.

There are still far too many strikeouts in the lineup, even without Dunn
