Surprisingly, we've never had a thread dedicated to them, but of course they've come-up in several discussions on here....

Does anyone still listen to them and enjoy their newer material? It's just amazing how the original line-up has been around for several years (except for "Rock In A Hard Place") and still churn-out above average material....especially based on today's standards.....

True, their best albums "Aerosmith", "Toys In The Attic", Permanent Vacation", and "Pump" are behind them.... That Steven Tyler's doesnt possess the range that he once did, but...just listen to "Devil's Got A New Disguise" and "Sedona Sunrise" and it allows one to somewhat recall their glory years....

They're still amazing..whether it be in the studio and live.... I must see them in concert before they retire from performing.... they've always remained true to their sound and do have some solid years still ahead.....

They're pretty blah now, every song they churn out sounds exactly the same. Pump is a great, great album, but everything since has been below average.

Chandler AZ.
There are few singers left, with that raspy vocal, that can and have maintained their ability to keep it up. Tyler is one, Tony Bennet is one, Hagar is one.
I love this band and would have to disagree on the "sound alike" portion. Balads-yes, and they DO have "their sound" but they do a little something different on eaCH lp. JMO
I think Perry is one very underrated player.

Come on. Get A Grip was pretty much one big song that lasts an hour. :D

I do like Steven Tyler and Joe Perry though. In fact, Aerosmith's Pump was one of my top 5 albums for a very long time, and might even still be if I thought about it.

I'll always love Aerosmith's earlier stuff, but their newer material just doesn't compare.

Aerosmith's Joe Perry: 'Steven Tyler has quit'
Yahoo! Music, Nov 9, 2009
Courtesy of NME.com -

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has said that singer Steven Tyler has quit the band "as far as I can tell."

Perry's comments follow those of rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford, who last week (November 6) said that Aerosmith are to hold crisis talks about their future after relations with Tyler became strained.

Now Perry has confirmed that Tyler is unlikely to perform with the band again.

"Steven quit as far as I can tell," he told the Las Vegas Sun, adding that the singer "has had no contact with me or the other band members."

The past few months have blighted with problems for Aerosmith. In August Tyler was airlifted to hospital after falling offstage at a gig in Dakota. As a result, the band were forced to cancel a U.S. tour.

Reacting to Tyler's supposed departure, Perry vowed to carry on with Aerosmith. He echoed Whitford's recent comments by saying he is considering replacing Tyler with a new vocalist.

"Right now I'm adjusting to how we're going to go on," Perry explained. "Aerosmith is such a powerful band, I mean it's like a steam locomotive. You just can't disregard 40 years of four guys who play together as well as they do.

"As far as replacing Steve, it's not just about that, it's also four guys that play extremely well together, and I'm not going to see that go to waste. I really don't know what path it's going to take at this point, but we'll probably find somebody else that will sing in those spots where we need a singer."

In a recent interview with Classic Rock magazine, Tyler said he wants to concentrate on "Brand Tyler."

FWIW, Tyler says he hasn't quit. Honestly I think they should all quit and just let their careers speak for them at this point but I doubt they will since they can still get paid to work.

Great band, Dream On is one of those songs you hear and it takes you right back to events in your life that happened with that song playing.

I have a love/hate attitude towards this band. They have a lot of truly great songs. But, they've also penned two songs I completely despise --- "Dude Looks Like a Lady" and "Love in an elevator". Just few seconds of listening to either of those songs makes me want to inflict physical harm on something --- anything really.

I concur on Dude Looks a Lady. I'm down with Love in an Elevator though. I had a chance to see Aerosmith 3 or 4 years ago when they came through town with Lenny Kravitz. Maybe Aerosmith had an off night, but I didn't think they were all that great live. Kravitz had a much better show IMO. Unlike U2, it appears that Aerosmith is going steadily downhill.
