... I need a Maalox, an Excedrin, some Tylenol PM, and throw in a dull butter knife. :p

I feel like Bryan Colangelo was outsmarted. Heck, if 99.9% of the people on this board think the trade stunk... then it STUNK!

At first, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. But, as time wore on... the rumors were true. And, then some.

Gone is the flexibility. A crappy draft. A crappy FA list. The timing couldn't have been more disastrous for this team. There is nobody out there I think can turn this team around (except for Kobe, and that's highly improbable).

I sincerely hope the Colangelos' know what the hell they're doing. I WANT AN EXPLANATION!

p.s. Even Sir Charles recognized that this was a bad trade for us. He mentioned that PHX just gave away it's bargaining power in the form of those picks. And, doesn't think Kobe is a player you build around.

Where the hell was this so-called braintrust when they gave the ok for this trade. I know... probably out on the 1st tee at the Phoenix Country Club.

Note to Bryan or Jerry: If you're burnt out... just sell. Don't turn this into the ATL.

We don't agree on much, sly, but I think you're dead on here.

The problem is that as a fan I feel cheated. I can't imagine how bad I'd feel if I had season tickets. I love Amare, and I like JJ and Shawn, but Amare has yet to become the type of player you build around, Shawn has really disappointed, and JJ has yet to prove he can continue playing at a high level 90% of the time.

And because I feel cheated I feel angry and saddened at the same time.

A lot of people (most people I know actually) would probably just shrug it off and say it's no big deal or not the end of the world. And that is true, but I am a Suns fan for life, and quite a fanatic one. It's not easy staying true to the team in Los Angeles surrounded by Laker fans.

So when I say I feel cheated, I feel that Bryan Colangelo has destroyed this team. Perhaps to an outsider that isn't the case, but as a fan with a fanatic love for this team, today has been as disappointing a day as any I've experienced.

I really don't mind trading away Googs--in fact, I'm happy about that. But not only did we trade away too many draft picks, we also traded away our ability to bargain in future deals--which may or may not include Jahidi White and/or Howard Eisley. Kobe Bryant? I'm still holding out some hope, but it's looking more and more like it isn't going to happen. If that's the case, then, it looks like we will either overpay for a guy like Dampier or do nothing. And doing nothing would be a disaster for the team, its fans, and the city of Phoenix.

Nice post Chap.

Your right the fans have been cheated. It is a very disappointing day indeed. We have delt a setback in the intrests of saving money. Not money to sign free agents or a significant increase in cap room this summer. The only redeming quality of this trade is the the Suns bottom line. And the worst part is the Jazz:evil: are laughing all the way to the bank.

I am a Suns fan and I have seen some not so good seasons and times. I do not think this is the worst team I have seen, or even the least entertaining Suns team I have ever seen. I think it was very close to start the season but I have watched nearly every game and I like many of the things I see, even if they haven't add up to wins very often this season.

I don't really have much choice but to hope they will get better. The results of the teams management and players performances are not in my control and they will not control me.

Go Suns. ;)

I'm not happy about the trade today. I have already said what I'll do if there is in fact no luxury tax, and the Phoenix Suns end up saving virtually no money. Can you say, "kaboom!"

If they really do end up saving/making $13 million I could understand them giving up this year's New York draft pick. From what I've heard there is no way the deal was going to get done without that. I just think that's all it should have taken. It's not like the deal costs Utah a cent. Actually by my figures they make some money. I'll bet that either way this deal would have gotten done, but Bryan Colangelo blinked first and sold the farm.

I'm not quite so pessimistic about the team's future. Even without a significant FA signing, the Suns will still have Amare, Marion, Joe Johnson, Jake Voskuhl, a top-5 pick, four hot young prospects, two hot assistant coaches, and a young head coach who's a great interview and seems to be nearly on top of things already.

The main thing this team needs is two years, which is something that is going to try everybody's patience, but it's almost a lock that the team is going to get it...;)

...which is not to say that this particular trade is anything less than an unmitigated disaster. :(

Understood, but remember we said the same exact thing last year, and the year before, and the year before that, and so on, and so on...

When will "wait in 2 years" become "this is the year"? As much as I hate to say it, it won't be in 2 years.

After reading the posts on today's trade I only have a few things to add.

1. I'm glad I'm not a Boston fan.
2. I'm glad I'm also a Nuggets fan.
3. I hope that JC can show the Sun's won't loose money so he can find a buyer.
4. I have a headache that will go away sooner or later.
5. JC / BC, You guys really screwed this one up good. I've been a Suns fan forever but don't expect me to buy any more tickets, sweatshirts, or stuffed gorillas.

We've made three trades in last few months:
1) White for Knight.... now they are trying to get rid of White.
2) Marbury/Hardaway... the ONLY player getting any minutes is
Eisley (and you know how good he is).
3) Googs... nothing in return....

McDyess has been on IR, Ward waived, Lampe not playing,
Vujanic not in the country, Clark injured, other guy from Utah
injured.... WOW... Bryan is doing one helluva job!!!

If we make a few more trades, we won't have a team left!

I love the Suns, but man, they are certainly trying our patience.

This has been a lost year all the way around for the Suns. IMO The only thing that could make this year worthwhile in hindsight would be winning the draft lottery. :(

I hate this deal as much as the next guy, but get a grip. This is not the end of the world. Close, but not quite. :D

As I said on Thursday, the real implication is that the Suns are dropping out of the Kobe sweepstakes. The chances of moving White and Eisley are much lower than they were before. Now, the most the Suns can hope for it that the $3 million bribe to the Bobcats would be enough because I really doubt the Cleveland pick would be acceptable. This year's Knicks pick might have done it, but not the Cleveland pick (the Suns are limited now because they still owe for the Barbosa deal).

Other than Kobe, almost every other option remains in place. Considering how many people think that without Kobe the Suns are doomed to another 35 years of frustration, I suspect that this only starts the gloom early rather than waiting until summer. At that point they would go into deep depression when it is confirmed that Kobe will remain a "Laker for life" as he put it.

I am disappointed that the Colangelos put profit ahead of winning. But the same was true last summer when they did not bid on FA's using their mid cap. It would be nice to have owners with unlimited resources, but we don't. You don't suppose Mark Cuban would like to trade teams?

Well, maybe when we finally get your fictional "dominating center", we'll be in a better position... :D

George,

I'm not sure how you figured this drops them out of the Kobe Bryant sweepstakes? Even the Colangelos are saying that one of the reasons they dropped that first-round draft pick was to save money for free agency this summer. Obviously they must figure or already know that is not going to take both of the first-round draft picks to dump White's contract. Or perhaps they already know that Charlotte does not want a bunch of picks in this year's draft.

Gambo implied (not necessarily a reliable source, I know) that New York's 2004 draft pick has been the one that planned on sending to you talk to get rid of Googs contract all along. He said that Utah held out until the Suns included that future New York pick as well. Even though it was well protected, that's the one I more upset about losing at this point.

I think the Cleveland pick will work if they want a pick from the suns. (maybe a young player like CJ)
The Bobcats will want picks in next years draft as well as this years, and they will have had the team for one year and can always use another pick for the 2nd year after they have seen how the team comes together.
Also, unless the suns can find another big guy in the offseason, they may hang onto White. They may have tried to trade him now, but might not want to now that Googs and the picks are gone.

I agree, It seems like they gave enough without that and maybe Bryan blinked..........bummer!!

Guys, I really do not think the suns will go after Kobe Bryant, and, I think Kobe will resign with the lakers. The suns will plan on free agents in 2 years, and that is when McGrady is available. Although it would be hard for Orlando give him up.
Kidd & Marbury are point guards, much easier to replace (I think) than a player like Kobe or McGrady.

When it comes to superstar status, I do not put Kidd and Marbury in the same class as Kobe or McGrady, and for teams to give up on them (when they are young) just does not happen.
