Only if he had possesion though?
I think so because if you take Green out of the equation and Battle just fumbles out of the endzone, it's a touchback.
Only if he had possesion though?
Honestly not sure. In the Denver game the penalty was because to avoid the defense recovering the fumble, the offense(The RB) batted it out.
In this case it would have been the defense doing it to prevent the offense, don't honestly know if that's a penalty but I can't see it being a safety?
We would've gotten the ball at OUR 20 because of the ball going out the back of their endzone on that play. Even if the Ref throws a flag for batting the ball out, we get the ball at the 10 yard line.
Things are moving fast out there, maybe next time Green will remember the rules.
I don't think the Cards would get the ball if Green bats it out of the endzone.
Probably a 10 yard penalty on the Cards from the original line of scrimmage and SF gets to keep the ball.

I agree. This team is a nightmare to be a fan of. It gets old.
I think the main thing is we all talked about this when Whiz was hired, is that run first mentality the right fit for a team with Quan and Fitz. I think it CAN work, but what we saw last night wasn't it.
A lot of it was Matt he was missing open RB's all night in the check downs, but it just seemed to me(and I am probably wrong) that we had way too many plays where we had 2 TE's or a FB in there and that allowed SF to just play a CB and Safety on both Fitz and Boldin.
At one point in the game thread I said if we run a RB screen or two we'll score for sure, next play was the middle screen to Edge for a first down. If I as a fan sitting at home can see how open that stuff is why can't the guy calling the play see it? It was so obvious they were doubling the outside
guys and just coming after Matt daring him to use the middle of the field.
Matt wasn't checking down, so call a few screens just to use that aggressiveness on defense against them.
I think that Whiz can coach don't get me wrong, but I think someone last night failed to grasp why we couldn't get the ball downfield and what was open.
Maybe it was really just Matt not seeing it?
In one game they fixed our run game.
One game!
This looked like every other Cardinal game in history until you figure they fixed the defense and the run game in one night, the offense moved the ball enough to win.
first of all, if the defense crumbles when it's most important, they have NOT fixed defense.
and you're "One game!" argument goes both ways . . . they've only done it for One game! that hardly spells permanent fix, though i'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt on that one, the run game does look markedly improved from prior seasons.
unlike you russ, i did not wake up mad. i woke up shaking my head. literally as i climbed outta bed i was already shaking my head. unreal. and yet, so real.

Here's how mad I was. At the end of the game I was almost relieved that Matt threw the 2nd pick. Because part of me just knew if we got into FG range, Rackers would miss anyways.
A fumble that goes through the endzone is a touchback. Batting the ball out is legal. If Green had kicked it out then it would have been a penalty.
Regardless, it is irrelevant now.
I understand what he was thinking. Leinart was awful most of the night. Whiz did not want to take a chance and milk the clock some more. But, I would prefer to lose with trying to win instead of not trying to lose!I liked the play calling -- until our last possession when Whisenhunt turned gutless and called a middle run on 3rd and 10. At that point, he played not to lose, so of course, we lost.
Let's see if the coach learns from this. I think he will.
This game made me sick.4 false starts in a row to start the secon half. Matt Lenart Piss me off. The last 3 mins I was nevous ass hell I smoke like 3 ciggarents when the 49ers had the ball and Alex smith ran on 4 and 1 this game was wrose then last year game vs the bears.
btw, i'm not 100% sure, but i think it's illegal for the offense to bat the ball out of bounds but the defense can as long as they don't kick it out of bounds.
I haven't been able to find the rule on it anywhere.
Renz how do you know batting the ball out of the endzone is legal? Batting the ball out of bounds got the Broncos a penalty. So is the rule different for the endzone or for the defense like Cbus thinks?
It isn't irrelevant to me because I'm interested in knowing the rules.
