While Im a bit surprised Chip Hale or Kirk Gibson wasn't promoted to Manager, Im just so glad Melvin was fired! Its going to save me a lot of money on arts and crafts supplies since I dont have to make a 30 foot wide "Fire Melvin!" banner for the next homestand like I was planning.

I think he's in charge of minor league development...All of the guys we have in the bigs, that aren't producing, were studs in the minors. Maybe they think he can reconnect with them. Who knows...but, anything is better than another month of Melvin.

Well, Melvin surely wasn't taking us anywhere that didn't involve a sub .500 record at this point in time, so it's worth a shot. If he flops, we can look for a more qualified manager in the offseason. Something had to be done if we want any shot at making the playoffs this season, so I'll see how everything plays out.

What is so wrong about seeing how the season plays out and talk extension later? What an idiot. (not you, I mean Josh Byrnes)

i was listening to an interview with Jude LaCava today on 910. he had nothing bad to say about Melvin. he did however hint that this move was pretty bad for the DBacks.
In his opinion Melvin turned into a pawn for Josh Byrnes, and it was Byrnes that was making many of the poor managerial decisions such as who starts and plays. He also felt that Hinich is just going to do the bidding of Byrnes with less resistance....and basically Byrnes will be managing for his desk.
Does not sound like a great plan. oh well.

Im pumped Melvin is gone, but absolutely disgusted theyd hire someone with zero direct experience. Its just as stupid of a hire as when the Suns brought on Kerr. Why not promote Chip Hale? I guess that would've made too much sense.
Itll be interesting to see if Finch juggles line ups like the Alchemist, if so, we know thats likely Byrnes forcing that to happen.

Not ... displeased. Too many negatives in that sort-of-positive sentence.
Nothing personal, but please, please let that approach disappear with Bob Mediocre. I think we've all been lulled to sleep by his passive leadership.
I hope to never hear another D'back Manager use the work "little" in every sentence -- "We're in a little slump." "We're fighting a little losing streak." "He has a little fielding problem."
And now we have a greenpea Manager who has to learn on the job. Given a four-year contract to carry the title of Manager, while the GM plays Manager in the background. it's the formula for failure . . . for continued failure.
For that reason, I am displeased with the hire. One negative. One big negative.
