Whether or not Marion opts out will hinge on whether or not Brand/Davis/Others opt out this year. If a majority of them do, I doubt he opts out. If not, hes gonna get PAID this next off-season.

Because Marion told me so. He didn't do that to go to Boston, did he?

Seriously. There is no way in hell the Suns let him walk for nothing. At the very worst, the do a sign and trade.

I can accept your Marion card. We may never know what went on in that lockerroom the past few months, but it had to have been bad for this trade to go down.

My transition from the trade-Marion to the Shaq bandwagon can't be smoother! ;)

He is going to get paid in any event. Rashard Lewis set the bar.

Good for you...

That Boston team was not anything like this Boston team.

Its Marion's option, right? There is not much Suns can do if Marion doesn't want a sign and trade. Yes, if he wants, he can walk without Suns getting anything...

LOL, you want Shaq?

LOL.

This is incentive for Lakers vs. Suns.

He is soooo wrong for you.

The only way he "opts" out, is if he signs an extension with the Heat if that makes any sense. I will bet you a drink that he will not "opt out to test the free agent market" if you want.

I think that it is pretty common knowledge that Marion was NOT going to opt out of his contract next year. He may sign an extention, but not opt out pending a trade. So next year, the Suns actually SAVE 1.5M in salary when you combine Marion and Banks. The year after that, Shaq and Nash's contracts come off of the books, and you have over 30M in expiring contracts. The contract isn't as big of an issue as you think.

I'm confused, they save about $1.5M next season, but gain $16M the following year. It isnt until 2010/11 that both Shaq and Nash are off the books.

Code:
	2008/09 2009/2010
Marion	$17,180,000 (PO)
Banks	$4,176,000	$4,464,000

O'Neal	$20,000,000	$20,000,000

Nash	$12,250,000	$13,125,000 (TO)

Sure I will take that bet.

Nope. Shaq and Nash are off of the books in 09/10. There is no salary for them for the 09/10 year.

Yikes. I dont see how Suns fans are embracing this trade.

Shaq DOESNT and WONT play defense. We've been through this in LAL ("gotta feed the big dog to guard your house") and MIA. The sooner this is accepted, the better off it will be.

Shaq will play 25 minutes per game (per Gambo) and is being asked to defend. Shaq hasnt defended anything but a buffet table in three years. He was complaining about offensive touches this year in MIA!

The contract! How this isnt the 1A story, I dont understand. The owner is notoriously cheap, trading key players to shed salary and selling draft picks. Shaq is owed $40M, not counting the current season. I understand Marion had a player option for next season and trading him is addition by subtraction, but man, taking on that contract doesnt make any sense to me. Shoot, even dealing Marion to NYK for someone like Currey would have been 10x better than this.

Again, the Lakers traded their 10th best player for a top 30ish guy. The Suns traded their third best player (some could argue second best over the past three seasons, all things considered) and a trading piece in Banks, for a player who isnt even in the top 50 in the NBA.

Where am I wrong DCR?

Couple things..

- Using Gambo as a source is about as good as saying "My Mom says..." because your Mom probobly has about as much real knowledge as to what's going on with the Suns as Gambo and Ashe. I am simply amazed at how those two are still in business and can only assume it's because of the innane amount of New Yorkers we have in the Valley. Gambo is nothing but a loud mouth. If it wasn't for his fake and tired New York accent no one would listen to him. (and yes his accent is fake; he's lived here for 10 years and talks like he stepped off the LIRR; as a native New Yorker let me tell you... ITS AN ACT.)

Sorry about the Gambo rant but I really can't stand that guy.

- The organization, this owner, is not cheap. That's simply either an uneducated, or a media inhaled line of thinking. I'm not going to bore you with a long diatribe on cheap owners in sports and what they do; but if you come back and still don't get it I just might. The Suns are fiscally responsible, but that's it. They are no more "cheap" than the Patriots are "cheap". IN FACT THIS MOVE PRETTY MUCH PROVES THEY ARE NOT CHEAP.

- I'd rather have Shaq than Pau Gasol; and Shaq will prove his worth in the playoffs (a place where Gasol has NEVER WON A GAME)

Seriously Gambo ****; if we wanted a center to defend we would have gone after Ben Wallace. We got Shaq to address rebounding problems.

I'm on. Talk all you want about whether it is a good or bad trade but if the Suns don't do something they will be in a familiar place come Finals time - home watching TV.

Gambo BROKE THE STORY on Tuesday, so your analogy stops there.

Ha ha! Do the math. 99% of Suns fans on this board would categorize the front-office as cheap or frugal. Case in point: Leol Deng, Noah, et al.

Agree to disagree. See you in May.

Gambo READ the story off internet rumor sites. Not quite breaking the story. He had no inside knowledge inside the Suns organization, and definitely not into the Heat.
