Ha ha! Do the math. 99% of Suns fans on this board would categorize the front-office as cheap or frugal. Case in point: Leol Deng, Noah, et al.

I wouldn't.

DCR, you like this?

Dude, take off the rose colored glasses.

This is the dumbest trade in the history of earth. It is a total desperation move. If I were a Suns fan I'd say the same.

I do like it. Marion wasn't happy anyway, and Banks is overpaid.

The move IS a desperation move. You could say that the Gasol trade was exactly the same. I like that the Suns had the balls to try something like this.

Shaq at 75% in the playoffs > Marion in the playoffs. Sorry Chris. :)

Excuse me, we don't need Marion anyway and we can play slow as well why shouldn't we. Marion was our only player that was really worse in the halfcourt than on the break. Maybe Barbosa too to some degree but that's irrelevant because Shaq will make it easier to play in the halfcourt for him.

- I'd rather have Shaq than Pau Gasol; and Shaq will prove his worth in the playoffs (a place where Gasol has NEVER WON A GAME)

Man I'm totally with you.....

...if it were 1998. However, it is 2008 and Shaq is a useless, ego-driven turd who is going to ruin your team. This is quite possibly the dumbest trade ever made.

OMG this is a bad trade. The Heat should be arrested.

C'mon bro. The Lakers dealt from a position of strength moving their 10th best player for a teams #1 and top 30 overall.

The Suns just broke up a first place team to get a guy not in the Top 50, while sacrificing their second best player of the past three years.

This is a boom/bust type of trade. I have absolutely NO problem that the Suns are realizing that their window is closing quickly, and doing something about it.

How the hell is Pau a desperation move? We traded a guy who was our backup center (possibly backup backup center when we were at full strength) for an allstar starter who is a top 30 player in the league.

You traded an allstar starter for a formerly was, on the decline, fat ego-driven turd center that used to be the best player in the game but is maybe top 50 if he gives a crap on that day...

And you have a coach who says when things are going bad "we need to run more."

Is it a position of strength because they got the better of the deal? I agree. The Lakers did get the best of that trade, but the REASON why they were able to make that trade, is because they had an expiring contract. When Shaq won't be able to walk anymore (the last year of his deal) the Suns will have 30M in expiring contracts that they can deal.

I just can't fathom how anyone can even compare Shaq trade with Gasol trade let alone believing this trade is equivalent or even better... :doi:

Because of all the cap space the Nash-less Suns will have in a few years.

This is a horrible trade for the Suns. Teams are going to kill the Suns running the high pick and roll against Shaq and Nash. Shaq has never been able to defend the pick and roll, even in his prime, let alone now.

Shaq is not going to be sitting in the paint guarding the opposing teams big man. Opposing teams are going to pull Shaq away from the basket, thus requiring Amare to defend the basket down low, resulting in foul trouble for Stat.

So is this why this trade makes sense??? So are you officially giving up on the season?

Its a desperation move, because your team KNEW that they had no chance of winning the title, standing pat. Maybe "technically" that's not a desperation move. I feel that the Suns came to that same realization.

Again, the Lakers got the best of that trade.

I do have concerns about the coach and this team though.

He won't be able to walk in the 09-10 year, when his contract will be an expiring one. No way in hell am I giving up on this season, or next.

How many centers run the P&R against the Suns? It will still be Nash and Amare on the P&R, with Shaq back to defend.

Not many because Amare can actually play a little bit of defense against the pick and roll. Shaq can't. Shaq has never defended the pick and roll well, even in his prime. Whoever Shaq is guarding, even if it's a scrub center, will pull him out of the paint to set the high screen, simply to get Shaq out of the paint. Trust me, we will all get sick of seeing the pick and roll because that's mostly what opposing teams will run on us with Shaq.

Dude, thats the whole point. Nash and Amare will be defending against the pick and roll. There aren't many teams in the league that can force Shaq to guard anyone on the perimeter.

By simply having the guy Shaq is guarding, no matter who it is, will force Shaq to come out on the perimeter. If Shaq is guarding Erick Dampier, and Dampier runs out to the 3pt line to set a screen for Jason Terry, what's Shaq going to do, stay in the paint? No, he will have to follow Dampier out near the 3pt line. Yes, Dampier is not a threat to score near the 3pt line. However, if Damp sets a screen on Nash, then Terry will be left wide open to shoot jumpers. Teams ran this play against the Lakers all night long and they're going to do it against the Suns.

This is the only logical good result of this trade. You will have sick cap space.

What Sarver will do with that is another question.

Great point. oh, and what have Kobe and Bynum already mastered (and I bet Kobe and Pau will soon?) The high pick and roll.

I hate to biglaugh all in this thread, but this is a Lakerfans dream. Now when we beat the suns, there is ADDED satisfaction of beating the dude who bolted because he wanted more money.

This is a point that so many Suns fans are not getting. I've watched the pick and roll run against the Lakers when Shaq was there so many times, it makes me sick to even think about it. This is Shaq's biggest weakness, and teams are going to try and exploit it, just like they did when he was with the Lakers and the Heat.
