Joe, You don't really need Amare Stoudemire's quotes about how much he worked on other aspects of the game. Grahamcrackr actually saw him play a couple times in Las Vegas and said his passing and dribbling skills are much, much better than preinjury. Same goes for his shooting.

Thats very good to hear. In fact, I expected that Amare had been working on different aspects of his game but this all started when I said I wished that is what he would talk about rather than what percentage of his old self he was - in reply to Chap's question of what did we want him to talk about. Its my opinion that it is better for him to focus on what he can control in his situation rather than on what he can't control. Yes, he can rehab in what the trainers and docs think is the optimum way but beyond that nature is going take its course and he'll be what he is physically.

This point of view is not new for me - years before his knee problems I criticized the coaches for not making passing part of his game. The idea was, as I said at the time, to maximize the value of the threat he posed while keeping the stress on his body as low as you could. I thought it was obvious that the way he played could well lead to a shortened career as well as him winding up semi-crippled for the rest of his life. Of course, professional athletes can't entirely escape such risks but it certainly makes sense to me to reduce them where possible.
