She was great. She might have a shot to take the whole thing. Her mom was wearing a Cards hat too.

On another note, I couldn't help but notice how apparently staged a lot of the show is. I don't know why I haven't noticed it before, but for example, last night Jewel is the guest, so unbeleivably enough, the first contestant is a HUGE JEWEL FAN, who sucks. But not only is she a contestant who sucks, but somehow they had time to go film a bio on where she works and what not. When she doesn't get selected she goes into some serious acting about how unfair life is and what not. Then at the end of the show, there is a medley of the worst all singing "Kiss" by Prince, yet none of them sang that song in their audition. The little bio vinettes and the pure rediculousness of the contestants just seems too much to be real. Maybe I'm just a conspiracy theorist.

It's heavily edited...they make them sing more than one song of course, but sometimes you don't see it, or they edit it to make you think they don't. Or maybe they have them do it in front of other judges or an empty room so they can do the music montages...

That's not how it works. She may have heard 30 voices, but you're only on with one outlet at a time.

Yeah. Unless she was hearing the voices of Miller, Bud, Samuel while reading the Gueness book of world records.

How bout Philippi Sparks daughter? She was pretty good. My wife and I predicted she will probably be among the last to go.

Check that.

"The ratings were up 5% in viewers and 3% in adults 18-49 compared with last year's premiere, which certainly was no slouch (35.5 million, 15.3/34).

But even more stunning, it was the second-biggest telecast for "American Idol" since it debuted in summer 2002. The top ratings performer was the May 21, 2003, telecast that featured finalists Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard facing off. That episode averaged 38.1 million viewers and a 16.8/37."

I think a lot of the Paula stuff is somewhat staged for ratings. I know people will say they get ratings no matter what, but I'm convinced for example that the whole Trump/Rosie feud is to get ratings for the view and Trump's show.

I do think Paula has major issues but I think they've been there for awhile, I think they're just playing it up now because they were somewhat concerned this season would struggle.

I haven't watched yet, last year was the first season I barely paid attention to, Taylor Hicks has already become a total afterthought, the only pub he gets is people making fun of him. Kelly is now completely snubbing Idol from what I hear, and the producers are taking shots at her. I think they felt there was real potential for them to jump the shark this year so they're going out of their way to suck people in early?

It's crazy that this is even an issue with the judges.

It's been on for 6 years now and after the 1st year everybody knew that if you came in and weren't up to par they were going to slaughter your audition and that these rounds are especially done and edited for the enjoyment for those of us who watch now.

I can't begin to tell you how refreshing it is to NOT be watching this show. Wow.

Watched the first night in Minnesota, not the next. Not gonna be watching any others, well, at least not making a point to.

Refreshing...

I agree with Gee, the episode was a little flat. That one Sunshine guy or whatever his name is can belt. Plus he is pretty Farleyesque.

The schtick is getting old... Watching people make fools of themselves as Simon (and now Randy) rip them to shreads can only work for so many years...
Once they get to Hollywood things will heat up and become more entertaining... But at this stage, I am totally turned off...

Funny, this is the only part I feel I will be/am missing out on.

Did you see their interview on The Big Idea last night with Donny Duetche??
No. I don't like them in an adult way where i might seek them out. I just like sinnging and dancing to them with my kids. Sometimes the songs get stuck in my head and I find myself whistling, too.

How was the interview? Those guys are super-successful.

And, BTW, Donny Duetche is a PR hack gone amuck. Even just a few years ago he owened/ran a big global PR agency.

Oh, I know the Donny Duetche story very, very well.... When my wife and I were still living back east, she worked for an ad agency in NYC (Amerati & Puris), and one of her co-workers was actually dating Donny... This was back in the late 80's and early 90's... We laugh every time we see his show...

Anyway, how 'bout some Fruit Salad? Yummy, yummy....
