News to me... Why would a guy's career be done if he still has one working kidney? And, if this is true, why then would DRC be able to enter the NFL with only one kidney??
Because the recovery from a kidney-epidectimy (or what ever you'd call the removal of a kidney) would take too long to recover from before you could even start training again. Then when you start training again you have to account for the time to get back into NFL shape.

I suppose it's possible, but it seems unlikely. The reason I don't think the kidney thing is a concern for our new CB: it's not about how many kidneys you have, it's when you lose one and how long it takes to come back from the "injury" (seems to cheapen the severity of it by simply calling it an injury, thus the quotes :)). Hasn't he been playing with one kidney for a number of years?

JMHO. I'm not a doctor, but I did drive by a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I'm okay with this pick but I would of gone with Mendenhall and then gone after Cason in the second hopefully.

While I agree with your thinking, Cason will be gone in the 40's IMO

You can take this comment and use for every single pick in the draft.

Not really. You have many other guys who have the measurables but also have a long track record of good football against high quality division I talent.

I am not a doctor either and did not stay at or drive by a Holiday Inn Express... But, I do think you're over-dramatizing the issue of having a kidney removed and the impact it could have on a professional athlete. But hey - let's just hope DRC is able to play well enough and long enough to get us where we need to be for many, many years...

But how many times we seen such "long track record" in college not pan out in NFL? Its a crapshoot regardless.

FWIW, if a player with two kidneys loses one during his NFL career, he's done anyway.

I can't remember the last time an NFL player had a kidney injury.

Mountains, Molehills, or something like that Pariah.

Trust me on this one... While I can't remember the last time a NFL player had such a sever kidney injury that he needed to have it replaced, I can assure you that in more games than you can ever imagine, a player has suffered a kidney injury...
It is actually a fairly routine injury in the NFL, and I would guess that over the course of a year, at least one player per week suffers an injury to the kidney...

Absolutely its a crap shoot. But for my money Ill take the big school talent all day. I bet Cason has a better career than this guy!

The fact that you can't teach or coach ball skills is a big reason why Whiz likes this guy. He's a good fit for our system. Hopefully Lott has him in the weight room before nightfall.

Never heard of it. Never seen it on an injury report. I played a couple years of football when I was younger...poorly I might add... and no one I ever played with suffered a kidney injury.

I've never heard of one in collegiate football, high school football, or the NFL, nor would I worry about it.

Knees, people. Those are the football problem areas. This is small potatoes.

Since you bring that up, I heard that DRC's kidney is in his knees. We're so screwed. We'll probably never win another game again.

You would be surprised how many times a college or pro football player woulld go to take a leak a day or two after a game, and pee blood...

However, my initial comment in this thread was actually a stab at being funny... I really don't see DRC's issue as a great risk at all...

can we change the name of this thread to "most utterly predictable post-pick thread on the board"

I kind of look at it like this. If the Cards had left things alone at corner then we would have had a gaping hole at safety. By moving Rolle to safety we had a need for depth and hopefully a future starter. So in essence we have hopefully improved 2 positions, corner and safety, with this turn of events.

We got one that MAY be a good one based on measurables and not much more.

Agreed.

I personally don't like the pick, but I don't know jack about this draft. Hopefully the kid turns out to be a player.

In a van...down by the river.
At least the Cards front office isn't consistently reaching in the 2nd round year after year like the RAMS have.......
'07-Brian Leonard?
'08-Donnie Avery?
AZ is headed in the right direction for once and has improved their draft day's dramatically in the last few years IMO.
The RAMS got lucky in '99.
because their FO is F"ING" impotent.

Leonard ran for 100+ against us last year and Avery is a fine prospect who many experts had slotted into the second. While i have high hopes for Branch, its not like he was a world-beater last year.
