Umm...Star Wars is "Space Opera". Most, if not all, of the science and technology of that genre is suspect at best. All aspects of the how & why in Space Opera goes toward plot, pacing, and story progression.

You want definitive science and technology in your Science Fiction with an adherence to precedence and "canon"? Watch Star Trek!

Well...all of the "new" Star Treks...the Original Series (Kirk, Spock, McCoy, etc.) contradicts itself, and later versions, in many cases...

It ripped off Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers, guess I shouldn't have expected any science or originiality.

My question is how come in the original trilogy The Force is considered to be an ancient religion when there were thousands of Jedi busy kicking intergalactic ass only about 20 years prior?

It's no secret that Lucas consulted with Joseph Campbell to make a "timeless" tale. The archtypes in Kirby's story fits a common mold found through human history.

I agree...to a point.

There are some details--not general archetypes--that are amazingly "familiar."

Again, I'm not pointing this out to trash Lucas or Star Wars. I like Star Wars and think it's a helluva yarn. I'm just sayin'...

God you're a truly amazing geek. I say that with reverence and sincerity.

Me: Okay, I'm going to say "thanks."

DM: The Supersck pulls out a +2 battleaxe and threatens you.

Me: I'm going to shoot him with my +3 crossbow.
:rolls20-sideddie:

DM: missed. The Supersck swings at you.
:rolls20-sideddie:

uh-oh.

Me: Damnit!

I didn't know anyone had a camera there, otherwise I would have worn my good pantaloons.
