So I watched A New Hope again today and a few things bother me. First off.... if that jackass supervisor would have just let the dude fire at the probe that had no lifeforms they wouldn't be in the whole mess that happens after. No landing on Hoth, no Ewoks. I mean they are looking for stolen Death Star plans and he makes this balsy call not to fire... does a single laser fire cost like 10000000 credits or what?

Also, what's with the dude who talks trash to Vader and gets the choke hold placed on him? Does he not know that Darth has slaughtered countless people and is pretty much the most powerful human Jedi ever...not to mention a badass? WTF was going through his mind?

I don't know why you have to bring your stance on bibily into the conversation.

Personally, I'm against it. But, I don't hold it against you for being pro-bibily.

oh man, i laughed so loud at this one that people came into my office, and damnit there's no way i could explain this one . . .

Your over analyzing it man. lol. I could probably do that with every film ever made.

To answer your question though, the reason is because the Jedi are all gone by that time and have been for some time. Even Han Solo considers it hocus pocus. You have countless people in the universe with no exposure to the Jedi or Sith for that matter. They have only heard stories of what they could do. Also, Vader didn't go running around using his force powers around that time (there were No Jedi to fight). He was more of a general and the voice of the Emperor. I am sure people even questioned if Jedi powers were just stories or real.

That entire scene was about the arrogance of the Empire and it's military. That room was filled with military leaders with ego's the size of the death star. They disbanded the Senate and didn't care and thought they had the ultimate weapon and would not have to answer to anybody. I think his arrogance and stupidity were believable in that situation.

The Death Star wasn't a bad book.

Really turned the Kevin Smith 'contractor' joke into a book that wasn't a failure.
