My thinking was I wanted the Suns to address three different positions with #1, #16 and #31.

The best way to do this after drafting Ayton at #1 was to draft a forward at #16 (if a top PG was not there).

Then the Suns could come back at #31 and draft a PG in a PG rich draft. I felt drafting Donte at #16 was too early.

The dexter Jackson analogy is a good one. I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was with the potential DiVincenzo selection that bothered me, but that’s likely it.

And while I agree with you that mcd’s timeline could be helped more with vets, I think it still serves to undermine his value of the Miami pick.

McDs comments in regards to the Heat pick being less valuable than many of us think is most likely spot on. I doubt the Heat will suck that year since they will have a ton of cap space in 2020 and the Heat are one of the most consistently good NBA franchises.

It is crazy that the Suns had to essentially trade both Miami picks to get the Lakers pick back, especially considering that Knight has been a net negative during his Suns tenure.

But this was an unusually strong draft and getting a player that would usually be a much higher pick was worth giving up both Miami picks.

It was a tidy package though tying up the loose ends until 2021.
